Good evening and welcome to The Irish Times' live blog from the third round of the Masters. I'm Emmet Riordan and I'll be keeping you up to date on what is traditionally known as moving day.

Sadly for Rory McIlroy, he's taken a step back after a couple of poor chips on the first resulted in a double bogey. The Ulster golfer also ran up a six there on Thursday, so he knows how to bounce back from early adversity.

He failed to pick up a shot or two on the par 5 second, but held his nerve to save par on the third with a tricky putt.

  • 20:34
The tobacco-chewin good 'ol boy Jason Dufner is one clear of Lee Westwood at the top of the leaderboard after both shot early birdies in their third rounds, while Justin Rose has made the best move from the early starters and is three under for his round and the tournament after 12 holes. .
  • 20:37
Tiger Woods failed to make a move earlier in the day, carding a level-par 72 and he remains on three over going into the last round.

Graeme McDowell hit a 71 and is two over for the tournament.

And McIlroy has dropped another shot at the fifth and has moved back to one under.
  • 20:42

Dufner drops a shot to join Westwood on 5 under as the drama continues in the third round. Former winner Fred Couples was joint leader coming into the day, but dropped shots at the first and second to slip back.

  • 20:43
Francesco Molinari has made a great start to move to 4 under. He looks the part too with a nice pair of Azzurri blue strides for the occasion.
  • 20:45
The two Swedes, Henrik Stenson and Peter Hanson, are also enjoying it out there, and both are two under for the day and four under overall.
  • 20:46
Rose very unlucky to spin back into the drink at the 15th and will drop some shots after his chip flies through the green.
  • 20:47
If you want to have your say, tell us who you think will win and how much money you have on them, you can drop us a message by going to the bottom of the page. You can also tweet me @emmetrd with your comments.
  • 20:50
Matt Kuchar joins the leaders on 5 under with a birdie on the seventh. Could be a real danger if he gets going.
  • 20:54
Francesco Molinari has actually made it to the 16th at this stage and looks set to set the clubhouse mark in an hour or so.
  • 20:55
Double bogey for Freddie on the fifth to slip back to one under. Westwood pars the short 6th to stay 5 under.
  • 20:58
There's been plenty of other action today, with Leinster hammering cardiff to claim a place in the semi-finals of the Heineken Cup. You can read Gavin Cummiskey's report from the Aviva here.
  • 20:59
Pádraig Harrington has just strung together back to back birdies on the 13th and 14th to move to one under and tie McIlroy.
  • 21:01
And the Dubliner has added a third straight birdie at the par 5 15th to move to two under and into the top 15.
  • 21:06
Hunter Mahan is playing alongside Harrington and has moved to four under  after three birdies on his back nine. Winner last week, so certainly has form on his side. Dufner drops back to four under with a dropped shot at the 6th after charging his birdie putt past the hole.
  • 21:07
Mick Matt K @ 66/1 fiver e.w but sad to freddie drop out
  • 21:08
That's a great bet Mick, he's such a solid golfer.
  • 21:09
McIlroy's just had a double bogey on the seventh and is back to one over. Putter looks to be failing badly.
  • 21:12
So five over for his round now Rory and Peter Alliss on the BBC has mentioned his Sunday meltdown from last year.

Harriington has leapfrogged him to three under after yet another birdie. Incredible stuff from the three-time Major champion.
  • 21:14
Westwood drop one, while Phil Mickelson picks up a birdie to move to 3 under.
  • 21:21
And we have a new outright leader as Matt Kuchar completes a brilliant front 9 with a birdie to go out in 33 and reach 6 under.
  • 21:25
Harrington will need all his short-game skills after flying the green on 17. McIlroy misses long birdie putt on par 5 eighth.
  • 21:30
And Rory misses the par putt too for a bogey 6 and moves back to two over. A par on the ninth would make it 42 shots for front 9 holes.
  • 21:31
Harrington saves par from off the green on 17 and bounces on to the 18th tee box. Another former British Open champion is on the charge as Louis Oosthuizen makes it a hat-trick of birdies to join the lead on 6 under.
  • 21:33
Rose three putts the last to finish with a 72 and undo all his good work early in the round.
  • 21:36
And Francesco Molinari horseshoes out on the last but still sets the clubhouse mark on 2 under after a 70. Again promised much more.
  • 21:38
Harrington hits a cracking long iron to the last. Can he finish with a birdie and move to 4 under and the clubhouse lead?
  • 21:39
And McIlroy pars the ninth to go out in 42 shots. He needs Harrington's back nine to get back into this tournament.
  • 21:44
And Harrington makes it to record a brilliant 68 and move to four under. Played the last 6 holes in 5 under. What a contrast to McIlroy, who was 6 over for his front 9.
  • 21:47
Now Westwood's missed from 18 inches and takes 37 shots to the turn. Moving day is certainly living up to its billing at Augusta.
  • 21:49
And all the while Kuchar is plotting his way around the course in impressive fashion. Should make par at the difficult 11th to stay at 6 under with Oosthuizen.
  • 21:53

And Kuchar just misses the birdie. Up ahead, Mickelson has an eagle putt coming up. No change of luck for Rory, who finds sand at the front of the 10th.

  • 21:54
Great bunker shot from the US Open champion, but it's been the putter that has been the problem. Really tricky six foot downhill par putt to come.
  • 21:56
AND HERE COMES PHIL! Brilliant eagle putt on the 13th hole brings him into a share of the lead. He just loves Saturdays at the Majors.
  • 21:59
McIlroy's putt rattles around the jaws of the hole before dropping. Are his fortunes about to change?
  • 22:04
Harrington speaking to former English cricket captain Michael Vaughan on the BBC looks nice and relaxed, and why shouldn't he be.
  • 22:10
Peter Hanson has made ita 5-way tie at the top as McIlroy leaves his par putt on the lip of the 11th hole to drop another shot.
  • 22:13
He's not the only one missing putts now as the greens look super fast.
  • 22:15
That's much better from McIlroy, serious birdie chance on the par 3 12th. Would be his first of the day.
  • 22:16
Oosthuizen's putt defies gravity to stay out. Would have put him a shot clear of the field, but it just won't drop.
  • 22:16
Westwood birdies the tough 11th to get his round back on track. Now 4 under.
  • 22:18
And McIlroy gives the crowd a fist pump after a birdie at the 12th, Can he get on a roll now and get back under par for the tournament. Shares a big hug with Sergio Garcia after he also makes a two. It's a good sign, he's not getting to down on himself.
Hanson has now gone clear with a second straight birdie. the Swedish Ryder Cup player is 7 under now.
  • 22:27
Mickelson has just hit the most outrageous flop shot on the par-5 15th, with the water waiting if he messed up. Birdie chance coming up.
  • 22:32
Mickelson rolls in the birdie to move to 7 under. Five under for the back 9 and on a roll. Joins Hanson aand Oosthuizen at the top of the leaderboard.
  • 22:35
Freddie's back in the game with back to back birdies at the 11th and 12th to go back to 4 under. Playing partner Jason Dufner follows him in. Huge crowds are being trated to some great golf now.
  • 22:38
McIlroy leaves his eagle attempt at the 13th a few feet short.
  • 22:39
Very poor birdie puttas another chance slips away for McIlroy.
  • 22:45
Peter Hanson takes the lead on 8 under after a brilliant birdie putt on the 17th that snakes its way in. The big Swede looks in great nick.
  • 22:46
Westwood making a hames of the 13th, while Oosthuizen can only make a par at the hole.
  • 22:49
Westwood rescues a bogey, and Henrik Stenson has his troubles at the 18th again. McIlroy sets up another birdie attempt, but they need to start dropping.
    .
  • 22:51
No joy for Rory again, looks like Augusta has bitten him yet again.
  • 22:55
"All the way, all the way," says Hanson to his ball on the 18th. And it does as his iron lands on the green and runs up to three feet. He's the man to catch now.
  • 22:57
Seemingly Hanson only sees, and hits, straight shots, not left to right or right to left. Just dead straight. Not a bad problem to have in fairness.
  • 23:03
And Hanson drops the putt to record the best round of the tournament with a 65 to move to 9 under. Out in 34 and back in a brilliant 31 shots. All sweet for the Swede, but can Mickelson close the gap after a brilliant approach to the last
  • 23:04
Lefty bounds up to the last green to some serious applause. Sounds like a Sunday reception.
  • 23:06
McIlroy's second to the par-5 15th lands just on the green but slides back down the bank into the water. Just not his day.
  • 23:08
CORRECTION: McIlroy's ball stuck on the bank and he'll have another birdie chance.
  • 23:09
Mickelson drains the birdie put on the last to go to 8 under on the back of a stunning back 9 of 30. Now just one shot off the lead and favourite to earn a third Green Jacket.
  • 23:13
Birdie for Rory on 15 and now on 1 over. Mickelson already has 3 Green Jackets of course, it would be his fourth if he can come through tomorrow .
  • 23:22
McIlroy pars the 16th and needs a birdie-birdie finish to get back under par for the tournament.
  • 23:25
So here's the lie of the land going into the closing stages of the third round.
    -9 P Hanson
    -8 P Mickelson
    -4 P Harrington, H Mahan, H Stenson
    -2 F Molinari, F Jacobson, I Poulter
  • 23:26
"There's nothing better that teeing off in the final group on the Sunday," says Mickelson after his brilliant back nine of 30. Hanson will be up against a three-time winner and the Augusta crowd.
  • 23:29
Bookies certainly favouring Lefty, with Paddy Power quoting him at 13/8 and Hanson at 10-3. Harrington is 22-1 and McIlroy 100-1.
  • 23:30
McIlroy goes over the back of the 17th with his second shot.
  • 23:36
Matt Kuchar makes a fine birdie at the last to close on 5 under and third place going into the final round.
  • 23:38
Bogey for McIlroy as his day is summed up with a poor par putt that drifted right and wide. Streaky putting is still his weak point.
  • 23:41
Bubba Watson hits a great shot up to the 18th. Peter Alliss has described his all white attire as painter/decorator. Looking for a splash of red on the last now.
  • 23:44
Oosthuizen has quietly worked himself up to 8 under after a birdie on the 17th. Could yet make the final group on Sunday,
  • 23:45
Paul Lawrie continues his fine week to finish 3 under with a great birdie putt on the 18th
  • 23:46
Bubba birdies the last and is 6 under after a 70. Two lefties in the last two groups.
  • 23:50
You wouldn't believe it would you, McIlroy hits a stunning approach to 18 that nearly goes in before sinking the birdie like a kid with a putter in his hand. Which is still what he is really, albeit one that has learned a couple of hard lessons around Augusta.
  • 23:52
Good comeback from the Holywood man, one-under 35 coming home after that horrendous 42 going out. One over for the tournament, but will go out all guns blazing tomorrow to finish as high up the leaderboard as he can.
  • 23:54
Sergio and Rory walk away from the 18th like two drunks on a Saturday night out. He mightn't have had a good round but it looks like it was fun.

The good spirits continue in the BBC cabin (or is it just a a window put up by Bubba) as Rory and Sergio repeat their hug after being asked by Michael Vaughan.

Rory reckons they were practicing foursomes for the Ryder Cup, but they both agree they couldn't get any momentum going despite the birdies on the 12th

  • 00:06
Oosthuizen bogeys the last to finish on 7 under after a 69, while Westwood finishes on 4 under after a 73.
  • 00:08
Freddie Couples and Jason Dufner are the final group on the 18th but both have moved backwards in the final round.
  • 00:09
Dufner 2 over to here and Couples +3. Freddie's got a birdie putt.
  • 00:09
And it just misses to the right.
  • 00:09
Two under after a 75 today for Boom Boom.
  • 00:10
    Dufner for par.

That's all from the third round folks on a day when Rory slipped out of contention and Pádraig pushed himself well up the leaderboard. We'll have a report up from Philip Reid at Augusta on the Irish Times site very soon and John O'Sullivan will be with you tomorrow night with a live blog of the final round. He'll be as impartial as he can be considering he has a sneaky five each way on Mickelson. I know because I put the bet on for him. I'll be shouting loud for a 64 from Jonathan Byrd, who is carrying my €1 each way on him tomorrow at 200-1. Night night.
