Welcome to the Irish Times Live GAA Blog. The focus is exclusively on Semple Stadium today with two mouth-watering All Ireland Senior Hurling quarter-finals.

The first match involves arguably the story of the summer so far, the Wexford hurlers. Their journey is hurling's answer to War and Peace, a long narrative that they will hope to extend further this afternoon.

Their opponents Limerick lost their Munster title in Cork last time out but still scored 0-24 in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on a day when they wouldn't have been happy with their performance.

Nicky English and Keith Duggan, both of this parish, have gone for Wexford and Limerick respectively, a statement to illustrate how opinion is divided on the matter of who will win.

There seems to be less doubt about the outcome in the second match, Tipperary heavily fancied to take out Anthony Daly's Dublin.

In the Minor match at Thurles Waterford beat Dublin by 2-18 to 0-19

    Limerick 3-15 Wexford 0-8

  • 14:39
    Half-time: Limerick 3-15 Wexford 0-8
  • 14:42

Two goals from Shane Dowling inside of a minute, the second of which was wrongly allowed by referee Barry Kelly has ended this game as a contest.

Should not detract from the fact that Limerick deserve to be well ahead. They have been the better team by a country mile.

Wexford haven't turned up, outplayed individually and collectively.

  • 14:45
  • 14:45
  • 14:48
  • 14:51
Apologies to ref, Barry Kelly. Seems that Dowling's second goal was legitimate as according to the rule 3.2 "A score may be made by striking the ball in flight with the hand(s)."

Mentally and physically, Wexford look jaded.
  • 15:04
  • 15:07
Niall Moran and Seanie Tobin on for Limerick

  • 15:30
  • 15:31
  • 15:34

It'll be a tough sporting obituary for Wexford as they sift through this defeat.

Limerick were very good in patches but won't have learned too much from this 24-point hammering.

  • 15:42
Just under 20 minutes before Tipperary and Dublin go at it in the second of the day's quarter-finals.
  • 15:43
  • 15:48

    Late changes for Dublin.

Joanne Cantwell asks Anthony Daly if he thinks it's a big day for him as well his team. In fairness to the Dubs boss he laughs and replies that he thought that speculation wouldn't start until after the match.
