Well this is a very depressing way to start the day.

Kitty Holland has a story on our front page about a 36-year old woman who says she has been living and sleeping in a car with her three young children in Tallaght for the past week after a series of temporary housing arrangements broke down.

And this is pretty depressing too.

A major Garda operation ongoing around Ballyjamesduff in Co Cavan after two men from north Dublin  disappeared in the area earlier this week.

Eoin O’Connor (32) and Anthony Keegan (33) were reported missing by concerned family members who have expressed fears for their safety.  Both men are known to gardai.

    This is also very depressing

Tesnion and violence in Ukrainian is mounting. Ukraine forces killed up to five pro-Moscow rebels yesterday and Russia launched army drills near the border in response,.

“The window to change course is closing,” US secretary of state John Kerry warned in a hastily arranged appearance in the State Department.

In what is being described as "unusually blunt comments"  Kerry accused Russia of using propaganda to hide what he said it was actually trying to do in eastern Ukraine - destabilise the region and undermine next month’s planned Ukrainian presidential elections.

“So following today’s threatening movement of Russian troops right up to Ukraine’s border, let me be clear,” Mr Kerry said. “If Russia continues in this direction, it will not just be a grave mistake, it will be an expensive mistake.”

Russian president Vladimir Putin said sanctions were “dishonourable” and destroyed the global economy but that so far the damage had not been critical.

    This is NOT depressing.

Pauline McLynn is joining EastEnders and will play Charlie Cotton's ma.... or mum as it will probably be.  The actress once known as Mrs Doyle will have "a recurring guest role" as Yvonne Cotton, appearing on screens next month.

Does this price seem kind of excessive to see the Wolf of Wall St in the flesh? I mean, it's not like it's Leo who'll be in the RDS.

Bank of Ireland has said it is trading in line with expectations for 2014, and profitable since the start of the year.  “The macroeconomic environment and outlook in Ireland and the UK, which are our key markets, are continuing to improve in 2014,” the bank said in an interim management statement, ahead of its AGM in Dublin today.  The group said it was achieving higher margins on new lending and actively seeking new lending opportunities.

Journalistic regulations are out of date says Michael Foley.

"Only one solely web-based publication has joined the Press Council, TheJournal.ie, though it is believed its application was not met with wholehearted enthusiasm.  It’s as if both sides of the media industry – print on the one side and radio and television on the other – were hoping the new-fangled digital media was a trend that might just go away. Of course, the Press Council can adjudicate for web-based publications, but mainly as adjuncts to their newspaper parents. In the case of RTÉ’s websites, strangely, they do not come under any regulator at all.  It would appear that there is a long overdue case for redefining the regulatory system for journalism."

    Hard to argue with that.

This LiveBlog update is coming courtesy of the free WiFi at the Department of Communications. I am here to have a burrito with the minister Pat Rabbitte. Or maybe the press officer said briefing, I'm not entirely sure. Fingers crossed for the burrito though.

"The Minister will be a few minutes." A sentence that always makes me sad. He's already 10 minutes late. Does he not know I have a live blog to update!
