It's the New Year and the rugby is really kicking into action now. Leinster and Ulster both come into this Pro14 clash (kick off: 5.35pm) off the back of wins last weekend and with European Champions Cup fixtures on the horizon next week. It's second v third in Conference B and a chance for some fringe players to shine as both coaches make a number of changes. More on that in a minute.

I'm Ruaidhrí Croke and I'll be with you for what's sure to be an attritional 80 minutes of rugby at the RDS in this Saturday evening interprovincial derby. You can get involved by using the 'Contact Us' button at the top of the blog. Lineups on the way!

It's a cold but clear night at the RDS which should present perfect rugby-playing conditions for these two sides who do like to play the ball. Both came through bruising encounters last week and, with players potentially competing for a place in next weekend's Champions Cup lineups, expect more heavy hits today.

Here we go! The players are just about to take to the pitch and we're all set to go.
  • 17:36
1 min: We're underway at the RDS! (Leinster 0 Ulster 0)
  • 17:37
2 mins: Leinster start on the attack with a nice linebreak from Garry Ringrose but the attack breaks down due to a forward pass. Ulster scrum just inside their own half.  (Leinster 0 Ulster 0)
  • 17:41

    TRY FOR LEINSTER! (LARMOUR, 6')

    LEINSTER 5 ULSTER 0

  • 17:43
7 mins: What a try and once again it's that man Jordan Larmour! From a lineout inside their own 22 the home side break with Ross Byrne finding Fergus McFadden. McFadden broke through into the Ulster 22 and fed Larmour, allowing him to speed away, throwing in a beautiful sidestep along the way to make the space and dive over for a try. Byrne converts easily.  (Leinster 7 Ulster 0)
  • 17:45
8 mins: What a hit! Christian Lealiifano receives the ball on the halfway line and is absolutely smashed by Jack Conan. That was a statement of intent from the Leinster man but he's actually come off worse from it. He's been treated for some damage caused to his arm and still seems to be in pain while the Aussie has come off fine.  (Leinster 7 Ulster 0)
  • 17:49
12 mins: Leinster are well on top here and are looking to make it count. A penalty inside the Ulster 22 is kicked into touch by Ross Byrne as they look to add another try,.  (Leinster 7 Ulster 0)
  • 17:52
15 mins: After a good lineout and another penalty Leinster take the scrum. They're pushing hard to increase their advantage.  (Leinster 7 Ulster 0)
  • 17:53

    TRY FOR LEINSTER! (DALY, 16')

    LEINSTER 12 ULSTER 0

  • 17:55
18 mins: Leinster work the scrum well and Gibson-Park moves it all the way across to the far side where McFadden is in space and looks certain to score. However, the Leinster back slips at the crucial moment and is stopped just yards short. However, Leinster have patience aplenty. They work it back across once again before Larmour throws another lovely step and offloads to Daly who dives over. Byrne's conversion from a tough angle misses.  (Leinster 12 Ulster 0)
  • 18:02
24 mins: Ulster are beginning to come into it a bit more now and launch an attacking foray into the Leinster 22. However, after some good mauling from Rory Best the ball is let slip and Leinster gobble it up to turn over and take possession.  (Leinster 12 Ulster 0)
  • 18:07
27 mins: James Tracy goes off injured for Leinster and is replaced for Sean Cronin as Lealiifano clears into touch for Ulster.  (Leinster 12 Ulster 0)
  • 18:11
31 mins: Chance gone for Ulster! Stockdale intercepts a Leinster pass on the Ulster 22 with the whole pitch to run into in front of him but the ball slips from his grasp! It'll be an Ulster scrum.  (Leinster 12 Ulster 0)
  • 18:16
36 mins: All gone a bit quiet since that second Leinster try but Ulster will be happy with how they've responded, stopping the flow at the very least. A score now before the break and they're right back in this.  (Leinster 12 Ulster 0)
  • 18:18
38 mins: And they almost make the chance with Stockdale steaming into space down the wing but Reidy's pass out to him is forward and goes into touch!  (Leinster 12 Ulster 0)
  • 18:22
40 mins: A blistering Leinster breakaway sees Larmour and Daly go over for a try but it's ruled out by the video referee! That's because Larmour lost control of it and knocked on. Good decision.  (Leinster 12 Ulster 0)
  • 18:22
HALF TIME: LEINSTER 12 ULSTER 0
  • 18:34
    41 mins: We're back underway!  (Leinster 12 Ulster 0)
  • 18:36
42 mins: Andrew Porter has replaced Tadhg Furlong for Leinster with the Ireland international undergoing a HIA. Leinster have a scrum right on halfway.  (Leinster 12 Ulster 0)
  • 18:38

    TRY FOR LEINSTER! (LARMOUR, 44')

    LEINSTER 17 ULSTER 0

  • 18:39
45 mins: Hold on, try disallowed! That's such a shame as it was beautifully worked with Larmour kicking through before Gibson-Park picked it up and flicked it back to Larmour to dive over. However, Gibson-Park was offside.  (Leinster 12 Ulster 0)
  • 18:43

    TRY FOR LEINSTER! (MCFADDEN, 48')

    LEINSTER 17 ULSTER 0

  • 18:44
49 mins: Another beautifully worked try from Leinster and this time it does count. Cronin and Ringrose work a lovely criss-cross in the middle of the pitch before Fardy created some space and found McFadden who was steaming down the wing to score. Byrne converts.  (Leinster 19 Ulster 0)
  • 18:47

    TRY FOR LEINSTER! (MCFADDEN, 52')

    LEINSTER 24 ULSTER 0

  • 18:49
54 mins: What a breakaway. Ringrose turns it over for Leinster just a few yards short of their own tryline before feeding Porter. The big man took it and absolutely bashed through three tackles, making some serious yards before flicking it off to Gibson-Park who sprinted away, drawing a tackle and finding McFadden who burned the length of the Ulster half to go over for another try. Byrne converts and this game is now well and truly done.  (Leinster 26 Ulster 0)
  • 18:53
58 mins: Johnny Sexton now enters the fray for a run-out in place of Ross Byrne.  (Leinster 26 Ulster 0)
  • 18:59
61 mins: Leinster are hungry for more and nearly work a try with Fardy sidestepping along the wing before finding Daly. However, his attempted pass to Larmour misses him and goes into touch.  (Leinster 26 Ulster 0)
  • 19:05

    TRY FOR LEINSTER (LARMOUR, 67')

    LEINSTER 31 ULSTER 0

  • 19:07
68 mins: When you're in form you're in form and that's Jordan Larmour at the moment. Some lovely hands from Sexton and Henshaw works the ball out to Larmour who bursts through for his second try. Sexton's conversion flies wide.  (Leinster 31 Ulster 0)
  • 19:12

    TRY FOR ULSTER!

    LEINSTER 31 ULSTER 5

  • 19:15
74 mins: Tommy Bowe looked like he was going over for his 68th Celtic League try but was brought down by a super Larmour try. From there it was worked it out to Stockdale who picked up a consolation try. Cooney converts.  (Leinster 31 Ulster 7)
  • 19:19
  • 19:20
80 mins: Into the final minute now as the seconds tick away. It's never been much of a contest with Leinster streets ahead.  (Leinster 31 Ulster 7)
  • 19:22

    TRY FOR LEINSTER! (SEXTON, 80+1')

    LEINSTER 36 ULSTER 7

  • 19:23
80+2 mins: Leinster break down another Ulster attack, Max Deegan breaks and finds Sexton who streaks clear for a try. Too easy. Sexton converts.  (Leinster 38 Ulster 7)
  • 19:23
