I've been approved for the SUSI grant but unfortunate haven't been offered any level eight courses. I was thinking of doing a PLC and reapplying next year. Am I eligible for the grant for the PLC and will this effect me in the future with the grant?

Yes. SUSI will provide you with a maintance grant while attending your PLC course. SUSI support students for a total of 5 years towards an undergraduate programme of study. You will receive it this year and again next year if you were to progress to third level.

If I appeal my result and my points go up so I get an offer higher up my list do I have to take that or can I choose to keep the offer I have? I am worried about joining a course almost 6 weeks after it has started but......

No. You will be given a choice. You may stay on your course that you have started or you could transfer to the new offer (if there is space on this course).

I hope that I have been clear enough.

I have heard that you can do primary teaching following completion of a level 8 degree course. Can you confirm and clarify where this can be done. Thanks

Yes you can but there are other requirements. The subject requirement for Irish Leaving Cert would have to be met. Subject requirements for Irish, English and Maths are changing so keep an eye on this. Many colleges offers the Masters in Education (Primary) and so does Hibernia College. This masters can be done on a fulltime or parttime basis. You need to satisfy the entry criteria.

The best of luck and get back in touch if you need further support.

    Nursing any offers

Nobody will know for definite until round 2. It will really depend on the untake from round 1. Points will fall if places haven't been filled. Round 2 out Wednesday, 29th August.

Thank you Deirdre that is good to know as when I view the scripts if I still feel then the way I do now I want to appeal history even if it is just for myself rather than to get in to another course. Thanks for your help.

Continue to go with what is best for you. The best of luck.

I didn’t get the level 8 course I wanted and got a level 7 instead but I discovered a new course I want to do and am thinking of doing a plc to apply but how would I go about doing that? And I already accepted the level 7 offer - what do I do?

www.qualifax.ie is one website that you can use to research colleges of further education.

you can also use this link http://www.cao.ie/index.php...

Enter in the CAO course that you would like to pursue next year. It will give you FETAC/PLC courses that offer a pathway into the CAO course that you feel you may be interested in.

You need to look at the modules, course and assessment structure of your offered level 7 and see if it interests you. If not then you need to contact the admissions office of the college in question.

If you accept a level 8 course but then decide to leave can you reapply to the cao for 2019 with the same leaving cert results

Yes you can. Be sure to let the college know if you leave the course. You may or may not be charged tuition fees for next year, depending on the time of year you leave a course. Be careful of this.

Would completing level 8 early childhood education help in achieving a postgrad in primary teaching

You need a level 8 but not from any specific discipline. Be sure that you meet the requirements that they have for certain leaving cert subjects. The subject requirements for primary education are also due to change over the next year or two at undergraduate level.

Have received an offer for DIT and I know that the course is excellent. My only reservation is that I feel I will be missing out on a campus environment and will be unable to keep up my languages as part of the course. Is this a real concern?

You could look at doing a language course or conversational language course in the evening time. All colleges are lively places. DIT is in the heart of Dublin.

DIT block book bed spaces with a number of their loyal external providers of campus style accommodation. They have added some new accommodation providers. These providers give preference to DIT students while accommodation is available. Providers  endeavour to place students from similar courses and DIT campuses together. I would advise you to contact DIT. I hope that this helps.

If I accept a level 8 course this week but decide next week that i a going to do a plc course instead what do i do? i have the lc couse onterview next week.

You would need to telephone the admissions office of the college in question and discuss it with them.

Hi I have got my course in UCD and I am worried about the accommodation. There is very little information on the UCD website and I visited the college yesterday and no one had any information either. Do you have any advice?

You need to contact the accommodation manager at UCD on  (+3531) 716 1031 , (+3531) 716 1008. They may have numbers of private homes that are looking to provide digs. Otherwise www.daft.ie or a local estate agent.

Hi , if I appeal a leaving cert result even though i still have enough points to get into my first choice course , can i still enter while it is being rechecked or would i have to wait . Thanks

Yes you can. Result of appeals are out mid October.

  • 12:26

Hi I have an offer of a level 8 course in Maynooth and also a level 7 in Athlone. I am unsure which I should take.if I take the level 8 and decide it’s not for me after year one , what way do the fees work out for sept 2019.

The Deaprtment of Education will pay your tuition fees for the first year of one programme of study. If you were to drop out and begin first year on another programme you would be liable for the contribution charge and the tuition fees.

You would not lose your right to free fees for sept 2019 if you were to leave your course before the end of October. I would advise you to get more dates and fee charges from the fees office at your college.

Hi my son has revived a place in engendering in Carlow but would prefer quantity savour can he except hi first offer and change to quantity savour if he gets it in second offer

Yes. Or you could contact the admissions office in Carlow. Each college has their own transfer policy. Some would allow him transfer after registration providing that he meets all requirements and that they have room on the QS course.

My daughter got offered Bio Medical Science, but her first choice was medicine. She at a dilemma as to what to do, whether she should take a year out and redo the Hpat again next year hoping to get medicine, but then she could waste a year if notget

Your daughter has two options. She could give the HPAT another go and have no regrets. Option 2: she could do her biomedical science degree. Work in that area if she likes it or apply for graduate medicine after this degree. Follow this link:

    The best of luck.
