  • Good afternoon!

Welcome to our coverage of England's last-16 clash with Colombia in Moscow (kick-off 7.0).

The quarter-final jigsaw is nearly complete - just one more piece of the puzzle to slot into place.

Gareth Southgate's side have only beaten Tunisia and Panama at this World Cup, but already they are presented with the opportunity of a lifetime.

Negotiate a route past Colombia this evening and they will be playing Sweden in the World Cup quarter-finals.

And not just any old World Cup quarter-final. A World Cup quarter-final at 3.0pm on a Saturday afternoon, in the middle of a heatwave. The chance to equal the nation's second-best performance on the biggest stage.

But for England to look past Colombia tonight would be foolish. The South Americans are a very handy side have just as much right as England to look at their potential route to the final and lick their lips.

They thrilled on their way to the quarter-finals four years ago, and will fancy their chances of going one better this time. However, they must do so without their star from Brazil - James Rodriguez is ruled out through injury.

It's fascinatingly poised. Sit back and enjoy as the latest chapter in this epic World Cup unfolds.

    Come on!!!!

  • TEAM NEWS:

Colombia: Ospina; Arias, Mina, D Sanchez, Mojica; Barrios, Carlos Sanchez, Lerma; Cuadrado, Quintero; Falcao. Subs: Zapata, Murillo, Rodriguez, Bacca, Vargas, Muriel, Uribe, Diaz, Borja. Izquierdo, Aguilar, JF Cuadrado.

England: Pickford; Maguire, Stones, Walker; Young, Henderson, Trippier; Lingard, Alli; Sterling, Kane. Subs: Butland, Pope, Rose, Dier, Delph, Cahill, Alexander-Arnold, Rashford, Welbeck, Loftus-Cheek, Vardy.

  • Southgate has picked the side which beat Tunisia 2-1 in their opening fixture - how long ago does that feel now?! That means Dele Alli is restored to the starting XI in place of Ruben Loftus-Cheek - while Harry Kane and co return after being rested for the defeat to Belgium.

James Rodriguez is a huge loss for Colombia. It's being reported that the official Fifa teamsheet has him marked down as absent - meaning Jose Pekerman is without his best player.

  • A show of South American solidarity from Maradona, now Argentina have been sent packing with their tails between their legs.
  • While Rodriguez is a potentially crucial loss for Colombia they still have plenty of firepower. Juan Cuadrado's pace is a constant threat while Juan Quintero can provide the creative spark in James' absence.

And, of course, Radamel Falcao is lurking up front.

El Tigre versus the Three Lions - who wins?

  • As you probably know by now, Sweden await the winners in the last eight. Emmet Malone was in St Petersburg for us - you can read his report HERE.
  • 15 mins until kick-off!
  • The teams are coming out of the tunnel at the Spartak Stadium.
  • Anthems done.

England in red, Colombia yellow. America's Mark Geiger is the referee.

  • Falcao gives the ball a last-minute kiss.

    BEEEEEEEEEP!

  • 1 min: The first of many defensive headers for Maguire. Alli gives it away to Cuadrado but Lingard clears up. Huge noise in Moscow.
  • 2 min: Plenty of possession for England, the back three getting acquainted with the ball. Sharp turn on halfway by Sterling before he's quickly closed down.
  • 3 min: Good ball from Young on the left in to Sterling and he's fouled. Kane takes it early, switching to Trippier, but his ball to Lingard down the channel allows Davinson Sanchez to cover across.
  • 5 min: Colombia willing to let England have the ball deep - they try to press but Maguire plays an excellent pass into Alli and England can break. He slides in Sterling, Mina slides across and handles the ball on the deck.

Great chance for England this. Young whips it in and Ospina has to fist it clear. Good follow up from Trippier - it's headed behind for a corner.

  • 6 min: Ospina plucks Young's corner out of the air and Colombia try to break, England cover well. Bright start from Southgate's side.
  • 7 min: Deep England free-kick and Trippier finds Sterling, who made an excellent early run into the box. English corner.
  • 8 min: Colombia break from the corner - Arias carrying and then taking a return ball from Quintero. Luckily for England Walker was there on the cover. Enthralling stuff so far - two pacey, vibrant sides.
  • 10 MIN: COLOMBIA 0 ENGLAND 0
  • 10 min: Another England corner on the left - Stones is penalised for a shove on Lerma.
  • 12 min: Kane drops deep to pick up a pass from Stones and lays it off to Sterling. Sterling gets manhandled by Mina - England free-kick.
  • 13 min: Colombia give it away in the final third and there's a half chance for Sterling, who sees his shot blocked.
  • 16 min: Great move from England. Trippier plays in Lingard down the right and he shows excellent pace to get there ahead of Lerma. Trippier takes the return ball and crosses towards the back post, where Kane loops his header onto the roof of the net. The angle was very tight, good effort from the England skipper.
  • 18 min: Colombia's turn to play keepball, England sitting in. A hopeful lob towards Falcao from Quintero is claimed comfortably by Pickford.
  • 20 MIN: COLOMBIA 0 ENGLAND 0
  • 21 min: Sharp turn of pace from Lingard who finds Alli. Sterling scampers after it but is well marshalled and can only turn it behind for a goal kick. England will be the happier so far.
  • 22 min: Patient Colimbian build-up. Cuadrado shoots from distance and it's deflected into the path of Falcao but Stones is alert to the danger.
  • 23 min: Young is fouled on the left but the referee doesn't give it. Cuadrado looks for a quick switch to Falco but Walker reads it well - Colombia are growing into this now.
  • 26 min: Good harrying and pressing from Kane and Sterling on the left - Davinson Sanchez clears as far as Alli who is fouled by Carlos Sanchez.

Free-kick for England on the touchline - Young drills it towards Maguire at the back post - Davinson Sanchez concedes a corner with a fine defensive header.

  • 27 min: England are being manhandled at every corner - Mina with another towering clearacne.
  • 29 min: England probing - Lingard looking very sharp. Alli, however, looks a bit laboured.
  • 30 MIN: COLOMBIA 0 ENGLAND 0
  • 31 min: Sterling also looks in the mood. He runs onto a Maguire clearance and jinks inside, beating Davinson Sanchez, but his left-footed shot is blocked. Promising.
  • 33 min: A half chance for Colombia, Falcao laying the ball off to Quintero on the edge - he drags his half-volley a mile wide.
  • 37 min: Good England build-up, Lingard laying it off to Kane who tries to slide one into the box rather than shoot. He gets a second bite at the cherry and gets fouled in a very, very dangeorus area.

The free-kick is 20/25-yards out and ot the left of the D. Maybe too close. Trippier to take. . .

  • 39 min: Bedlam in the box, with Henderson down in a heap. Replays showed Barrios had a little nibble with his forehead - Henderson did an impressive Neymar tribute act. This is very, very edgy - booking for the Colombian.

Eventually Tripper takes the free-kick - curls it just wide.

  • 41 MIN: COLOMBIA 0 ENGLAND 0
  • 43 min: Alli is clearly not fit. He's slow to a pass and then holds his hip as he goes to ground on the left.

VAR didn't check that headbutt incident. Barrios would have been in trouble if it had.

  • 45 min: Now there's an incident between Mina and Sterling in the box - the Colombian centre-half grappling and then going to ground as Sterling looks to wriggle free. Tetchy.
  • 47 min: Snap shot from Quintero - one bounce and straight down Pickford's throat.
  • 48 min: A cross towards Sterling from the right is half cleared - Lingard can't get over the rebound under pressure.

Alli is on the deck. . .

  • HT: COLOMBIA 0 ENGLAND 0
  • Intriguing first half, albeit one short on many openings.
  • Hard to see how VAR could have looked at that headbutt on Henderson and not given a red card.
  • The teams are back out for the second half in Moscow - including Dele Alli.

    We're back underway!

  • 46 min: Early ownership of the ball from Colombia - England pressing and forcing them to go long.
  • 48 min: And now the English back three knocking it around - Colombia harrying.
  • 49 min: Not quite the same zest and snap from England since the break. Early days, though.
  • 50 MIN: COLOMBIA 0 ENGLAND 0
  • 52 min: Kane challenges in the air with Arias, who shoves him in the back and gets a deserved booking.

Free-kick in a good spot out on the left - Young to swing it in. It's a brilliant delivery with red shirts queuing up at the back post - stunning header behind from Davinson Sanchez.

  • PENALTY TO ENGLAND!!!!!
  • 53 min: Carlos Sanchez is all over Kane at the corner, under the ref's nose. The ref points straight to the spot - Colombia can't have any complaints.

Kane to take, when Colombia stop crying about the decision. . .

  • GOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!

    COLOMBIA 0 ENGLAND 1 (KANE 57 MIN)

  • The Colombia players whinge and moan for an eternity on the penalty spot - Henderson earning a booking in the midst of it. When the referee finally gets them to clear the area Kane keeps his cool and slots it down the middle.

    58 MIN: COLOMBIA 0 ENGLAND 1

  • 59 min: Stones and Falcao wrestle in the centre-circle - the latter earning a free-kick. If Colombia actually tried to play football they'd have a much better chance then with their current tactics, which entail spoiling rather than creating.
  • 60 MIN: COLOMBIA 0 ENGLAND 1
  • 62 min: Another England free-kick out on the left. Great delivery from Young towards Maguire at the back post. He heads it back across goal where Cuadrado makes a vital interception. Maguire then wins it in the box and goes to ground - he gets straight up. The ball is crossed the the back post where Alli heads it over.

Falcao is going mad and he gets a booking. Colombia are losing the plot here.

  • 64 min: Long ball from Colombia and new man Bacca catches Stones with an arm - earning a booking. And then Alli catches Arias late. Somebody is getting sent off soon.
  • 65 MIN: COLOMBIA 0 ENGLAND 1
  • 66 min: England just need to keep their heads and play football here - Colombia are desperately dangling the bait.
  • 67 min: Young crosses from the left and gets taken out very, very late.
  • 69 min: Lingard can't resist a little nibble on Carlos Sanchez and gets a booking.
  • 70 MIN: COLOMBIA 0 ENGLAND 1
  • 71 min: England really are impressive with the way they pass from the back - Pickford setting up an attack with a fine pass to Young on the left. Tripper then gets unceremoniously dumped over with a barge from behind but gets nothing.
  • 72 min: Outstanding build-up play from England an it's slipped in for Lingard with Kane unmarked in the middle - Davinson Sanchez makes a vital interception. Young drifts a corner in and Maguire's header lands on the roof of the net.
  • 73 min: Good, surging run down the inside left channel from Kane - he's crowded out by three shirts but draws a foul.

Another set-piece opportunity for England, Young to swing it in again - it's just a fraction too big for Kane, who is flagged offside anyway.

  • 76 min: Now Colombia are probing. Good ball from Quintero in towards Bacca but there's no yellow shirts following up from his nod down and England hack clear.
  • 77 min: England break through Sterling. He slides in Lingard who's in a foot race and gets brought down in the box - the referee refuses to check with VAR.
  • 79 min: Carlos Sanchez replaced by Uribe. Kane carries and is bundled over near halfway, relieving the pressure for England. Eric Dier is replacing Alli.
  • 80 MIN: COLOMBIA 0 ENGLAND 1
  • 81 min: Kyle Walker you lucky, lucky boy. He gets caught in possession in the England half - Colombia have a three on two. It's switched to Cuadrado on the right but he takes the worst possible option and thrashes a shot high and wide. Big warning for England - Walker still looks like a fullback playing at centre-half.
  • 83 min: England botch a chance down the right after a poor touch from Lingard. Moments later Kane is fouled by Falcao in midfield.

Trippier clips it into the box, Maguire's looped header   has too much on it.

  • 85 min: Better from Colombia with a couple of dangeorus crosses. First Davinson Sanchez flicks it well wide with Falcao lurking, before Falcao sends a second effort wide.
  • 87 min: Falcao dropping deep trying to do it on his own - he shoots from distance and it's straight at Pickford. Falco needs to be playing on the shoulder, not dropping off like that.

England change - Jamie Vardy on for Sterling. Muriel on for Quintero for Colombia. Sterling has been excellent tonight.

  • 89 min: Davinson Sanchez is all over Kane as his Spurs teammate holds the ball up well - then brings him down when he gets turned. Free-kick to England.
  • 90 MIN: COLOMBIA 0 ENGLAND 1
  • FIVE MINUTES ADDED TIME!
  • 92 min: Colombian free-kick deep in their own half. Ospina pumps it long. Wow! Out of nowhere Uribe sends a screamer towards the top right corner. Colombian corner.
  • GOOOOAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!

    COLOMBIA 1 ENGLAND 1 (MINA 94 MIN)

  • He's done it again. Ospina is up for the corner, it's a good delivery and the centre-half beats his man, heading it into the ground and towards the top left corner. Trippier can't head it clear on the line. Out of nowhere.

    95 MIN: COLOMBIA 1 ENGLAND 1

  • FT: COLOMBIA 1 ENGLAND 1

    Extra-time. . .

  • We're back underway. . .
  • ET 1 min: Don't expect any nice football for the next 30 minutes. It's going to be war.

Young is fouled on the left by Barrios, who must have commited 10 fouls since he was booked. Young's delivery is headed away.

  • ET 3 min: England have got two subs left to make. Rashford and Loftus-Cheek? Dier was brought on to try and see the game out - he isn't as useful when you need a goal.
  • ET 5 min: Better from Colombia in extra-time. They work it down the left and Pickford has to be alert to a low cross at the near post. Kane limping. . .
  • ET 7 min: Colombia have the ball in the net after Maguire gets distracted by a second ball on the pitch. Luckily for England the ref had already blown his whistle.
  • ET 8 min: Kane drops into the pocket and tries to pick out Vardy with a lofted ball. Not sure England want him in the quarter-back role. England look gassed.
  • ET 10 min: Good ball from Cuadrado - Bacca's header is deflected behind by Walker for a corner. This time Davinson Sanchez heads it wide.
  • ET 11 min: Danny Rose on for Young.
  • ET 12 min: All a bit stodgy from England now.
  • ET 13 min: Great ball from Muriel from the left and Falcao can't steer his header on target. Colombia looking the more likely.
  • ET HT: COLOMBIA 1 ENGLAND 1
  • Back underway.
  • ET 15 min: Southgate's changes have been poor here. Dier has slowed them down massively while Vardy has barely had a kick. Surely bring on Rashford for 15 mins?
  • ET 17 min: Kane tries to find Vardy over the top - well read by Mina. Then Lingard finds Vardy in the box but he runs it wide.

Pickford has to charge off his line to clear a long ball. On a knife edge.

  • ET 20 min: Vardy harrying down the left and he gets dumped over by Mina - no free-kick. Walker is cramping up in both legs which is symbolic of how England have played in extra-time.
  • ET 21 min: I thought the point of resting players against Belgium was to keep them fresh for tonight? Half the England side are dead on their feet.
  • ET 22 min: So close for England. Neat build-up play on the left, Lingard finding Henderson who releases Rose - he drags his effort just wide of the far post.

    Rashford on for Walker.

  • ET 24 min: Excellent ball from Trippier to Vardy whose first touch is superb. He plays it towards the near post where Arias turns it behind.

What a chance! Trippier picks out Dier who has a free header but sends it miles over. He's had a stinker - and there's still time for him to miss a penalty.

  • ET 27 min: Deep cross from Cuadrado towards Falcao. Dier turns it behind but they get away with a goal kick. We're approaching the inevitable.
  • ET 28 min: Rose looks to burst down the left and is brought down by a rash Cuadrado tackle - he gets a booking.

Rose sends it towards the back post, Ospina flaps it out for a throw on the right.

  • ET FT: COLOMBIA 1 ENGLAND 1
