  • Good afternoon!

Welcome to our coverage of Ireland's final November Test, against Argentina, at the Aviva Stadium.

It has been a pleasing month for Joe Schmidt, who has seen his side beat South Africa and Fiji - handing a number of players their first taste of Test match rugby in the process.

The last time Ireland met Los Pumas they were comprehensively outgunned in the 2015 Rugby World Cup quarter-finals, losing 43-20 in Cardiff.

That defeat remains one of the most galling of the Schmidt era, exposing an injury-ravaged Ireland's lack of strength in depth.

This is something Schmidt has looked to remedy ever since - and two years out from Japan 2019 the playing pool looks stronger than ever.

A win for Ireland today wouldn't be comparable revenge for that defeat in the Welsh capital, but it would be the perfect way to round off 2017.

So, for one last time this year, enjoy Lansdowne Road under the floodlights.

    Kick-off is at 5.30.

    Come on!!!

  • TEAMS:

Ireland: Rob Kearney; Adam Byrne; Chris Farrell; Bundee Aki; Jacob Stockdale; Jonathan Sexton; Conor Murray; Cian Healy; Rory Best (capt); Tadhg Furlong; James Ryan; Iain Henderson; Peter O’Mahony; Sean O’Brien; CJ Stander. Replacements: James Tracy; Dave Kilcoyne; John Ryan; Devin Toner; Rhys Ruddock; Luke McGrath; Ian Keatley; Andrew Conway.

Argentina: Joaquin Tuculet; Ramiro Moyano, Matias Moroni, Santiago Gonzalez Iglesias, Emiliano Boffelli; Nicolas Sanchez, Martin Landajo; Santiago Garcia Botta, Agustin Creevy (capt), Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro, Matias Alemanno, Tomas Lavanini, Pablo Matera, Marcos Kremer, Tomas Lezana. Replacements: Julian Montoya, Lucas Noguera, Enrique Pieretto, Guido Petti, Juan Manuel Leguizamon, Gonzalo Bertranou, Jeronimo de la Fuente, Sebastian Cancelliere.

    Referee: Mathieu Raynal (France)

  • Over in Edinburgh Scotland have just dished out a 53-24 pasting to Australia. Ha.
  • 45 minutes to go until kick-off in Dublin, which leaves plenty of time for some pre-match reading:

Gerry Thornley has previewed tonight's match HERE.

You can read Johnny Watterson's Ireland player-profiles HERE.

And get to know the Argentinian XV HERE.

  • Today's Ireland side has five survivors from the XV which lost to Argentina in the 2015 RWC - the rejuvenated Cian Healy, Rory Best, Iain Henderson, Conor Murray and Rob Kearney - while Devin Toner is on the bench.

As for the visitors, there are seven familiar faces in their starting line-up - Joaquin Tuculet, Matias Moroni, Nicolas Sanchez, Martin Landajo, Agustin Creevy, Tomas Lavanini and Pablo Matera.

  • Argentina have failed to really kick on since their fourth-place finish in 2015, and they were winless in this year's Rugby Championship. Part of this stems from strict rules regarding player selection and the flat-out refusal to pick anybody plying their trade outside of Argentina - indeed, the full XV today all play for Super Rugby franchise Jaguares.
  • It's four degrees in Dublin tonight which is basically baltic so those of us watching on the box are the real winners here.
  • England have beaten Samoa 48-14 at Twickenham, while Wales and the All Blacks are out at the Millennium Stadium - that should be a snorter.
  • Adam Byrne is today's Ireland debutant - Ireland look well stocked for wingers at the moment.
  • Oh, and Bundee is back.
  • Here come the teams in Dublin. Pyrotechnics aplenty but looks like most of the crowd are still huddled on the concourse - can't blame them.
  • Michael D is saying his hellos - well wrapped up you'll be pleased to hear.
  • James Ryan and Iain Henderson is a potentially very exciting secondrow partnership, isn't it?
  • Anthems done and dusted.
  • Ireland decked out in green - Argentina in dark blue.

    And we're underway!

  • 1 min: Stockdale fields the kick off and Ireland run a phase before clearing - but there's minimal pressure on the chase. Tuculet kicks it back and Ireland look to run it - Farrell getting an early rumble.
  • 2 min: Good early possession for Ireland, and Sexton finds O'Brien in space out on the left. Fantastic stuff from the hosts, who play their way up to halfway with some clinical running and clearing out - before Kearney is released on the outside shoulder.

Baptism of fire for Argentina who are on the back foot, and Ireland are awarded a penalty just inside the 22.

Regulation effort for Sexton - who splits the posts.

    3 MIN: IRELAND 3 ARGENTINA 0

  • 4 min: Argentina's first spell on the ball and they build patiently before  Boffelli steals a yard on the right. Good line speed from Ireland though and they turn it over before looking wide again, with Farrell releasing Byrne up the right. He kicks ahead, and Argentina relieve a bit of pressure with a kick into touch.
  • 6 min: Quick, clean lineout ball for Ireland and they move it left where Stockdale makes good yards in off his right wing. Ireland probing and Sexton finds O'Brien again with a sweeping ball, but a few phases later Stander knocks it forward.
  • 8 min: Solid Argentinian scrum and they move it left through Tuculet, but then Sexton turns it over in midfield with a good rip on number eight Lezana. There's then an offside called the Murray nudges the penalty into touch as Sexton gets a bit of treatment - but he's fine to continue.
  • 10 min: Nearly a moment of magic as Murray spots Byrne in space on the right but his kick takes a cruel bounce into touch. Great vision.
  • 10 MIN: IRELAND 3 ARGENTINA 0
  • 12 min: Great scrum from Ireland, who absolutely munch the Puma's frontrow and earn a penalty inside the 22, dead-centre.

Sexton gobbles up another easy three points. Positive start, this.

    13 MIN: IRELAND 6 ARGENTINA 0

  • 14 min: Stockdale fields the restart and finds a brilliant kick up towards the visitor's 10.
  • 15 min: Argentina work their way infield off the top and are awarded a penalty on the halfway line - from which Sanchez is going to go for goal.

He has the distance, but not the legs - Argentina's woes off the tee continue.

  • 17 min: Ireland looking to play it from deep again, but Aki's pass to Farrell goes behind his midfield partner. Dangerous scrum for Argentina on the Irish 22 - but the hosts escape with a free kick thanks to Landajo's crooked feed.
  • 20 MIN: IRELAND 6 ARGENTINA 0
  • TRY IRELAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Great score. Sexton loops around Farrell in midfield who slips him a lovely pass. Ireland have a two on one and Sexton draws his man before finding Stockdale on the shoulder, and he cruises over to score.

That was all about the pass from Farrell, looks better with each replay.

    Sexton converts.

    22 MIN: IRELAND 13 ARGENTINA 0

  • 23 min: Argentina finally starting to build some momentum until secondrow Lavanini spills a short ball on the Irish 22. Ireland playing their way out from deep again.
  • 25 min: Brief break in play for some running repairs. Argentina scrum on their 10 and they look to work the short side but  Boffelli knocks on. Ireland have been very clean and clinical in possession, the visitors not so much.
  • 27 min: Good hands again from Ireland in midfield and Kearney dances his way back inside and over the halfway. More patient building of phases before Sexton finds the space with a kick in behind.
  • 29 min: Almost sublime from O'Brien, whno dances out of a tackle but can't quite find the supporting Best with a pass out of the back of his hand.
  • 30 MIN: IRELAND 13 ARGENTINA 0
  • 31 min: Ireland have a lineout in their own 22 after Kearney's kick is charged down. They opt for the maul before kicking - and a good aerial challenge from Stockdale nearly sees the ball break for Murray on halfway. Good kick from Sanchez though, and though Ireland secure the lineout they spill it in midfield. Scrum to the visitors.
  • 34 min: Messy scrum but Argentina dig the ball out and have their first attacking platform. Neat show and go from Sanchez but the ball is then knocked forward - they've been so loose in possession.
  • 37 min: Argentina have the ball on the Irish 22 but the host's defence is good and after 17 phases they break it down.
  • 38 min: Scrappy passage aftter a knock on and a poor Sexton chip. The referee asks to check a tackle on O'Brien as he looked to pick up the scraps - but replays show it was nothing serious.
  • 39 min: Excellent rip and turnover from O'Brien in midfield. Farrell then tries to stab a kick through - poor decision.
  • 40 min: Last play of the half and Ireland move it left to Kearney who straightens up well and bursts inside the Argentina 10-metre. Good ball from Sexton and he gets hammered late - but the referee says it was forward.
  • HT: IRELAND 13 ARGENTINA 0
  • There's a serious game going on in Cardiff, with Wales trailing the All Blacks by a point at half time - New Zealand 12-11 up.

Scott Williams finished off a stunning team move in the final play of the half.

  • Ireland are back out for the last act of the International year. Argentina decided to come out early which is slightly odd given it's about -10000.

    Sexton gets us back underway!!!

  • 41 min: Early Ireland possession and some bruising carries for Farrell and Stander.
  • TRY IRELAND!!!!!!!!!!
  • Stockdale gets his second score, and what a score. He takes a ball from Sexton on a great line and then arcs his run, showing blinding pace to get around on the left and having the strength to get over in the corner. Superb.

Great conversion Sexton from wide on the left.

    43 MIN: IRELAND 20 ARGENTINA 0

  • 44 min: This could be a long 40 minutes for the visitors, who are looking to build the phases on halfway. Healy spoiling on the floor and Sanchez kicks for the corner from the Irish 10.
  • 46 min: Argentina win their lineout and have the ball in the Irish 22. Sanchez looks crossfield with a kick but Kearney reads it well and claims it high above  Boffelli. He clears and Argentina take the set-piece quickly, with Best getting pinged on the floor.
  • 49 min: Argentina have responded well to that second Stockdale try. They look to move it wide in the Irish 22 but it goes loose - Irish knock on and a scrum in a dangerous position.
  • 50 MIN: IRELAND 20 ARGENTINA 0
  • 51 min: Strong defence from Ireland and they eventually turn Argentina over inside their own 22 - O'Mahony latching on.
  • 53 min: Argentina have had ownership of the ball for the last 10 minutes with everything played inside the Irish 10 metre but they haven't got anything on the scoreboard to show for it. Kearney reads a Sanchez kick over the top well but the visitors had a penalty coming. Sanchez finds a decent touch.
  • 54 min: Argentina set the lineout maul and the ball is popped out to Gonzalez Igles but he is smashed by Aki. Moments later Farrell and Furlong make a massive hit in midfield on number eight Lezana.

  • TRY ARGENTINA!!!
  • Argentina think they've scored as Sanchez stabs a kick through to Tuculet who touches down. The referee checks both incidents with the TMO, who decides there was no foul play from Furlong. He then checks the try - it's very tight but he decides it's not offside. Argentina have the score their pressure deserved.

    Sanchez converts.

    56 MIN: IRELAND 20 ARGENTINA 7

  • 58 min: Ireland have fallen to sleep after that brilliant start to the half and need to get a bit of territory and possession. Sexton has to do some fielding work deep in the Irish 22 but makes a good clearance. Farrell down getting some treatment. Kilcoyne on for Healy.
  • 60 MIN: IRELAND 20 ARGENTINA 7
  • 62 min: Sexton kicks a penalty to touch and Ireland get good ball off the top, forcing the visitors into another infringement. Sexton kicks out on the five metre.
  • TRY IRELAND!!!!!!
  • Ireland set the lineout maul and Stander nurses the ball at the back before picking his moment and burrowing over the line. The try sparks a brief melee, and both skippers get a talking to.

    Sexton misses the comversion.

    64 MIN: IRELAND 25 ARGENTINA 7

  • 66 min: Another good response from Argentina who are getting good front foot ball in the Irish 22, with new nine  Bertranou dictating the tempo well. Scrambling defence from Ireland and they're rewarded as  Leguizamon loses the ball.
  • 68 min: Neat lineout move from Argentina, moving it out then back to Moyano on an inside ball. He swerves into the 22 but his offload goes forward.
  • 69 min: Good Argentina scrum and the hosts are penalised - another scrum on the way.
  • 70 MIN: IRELAND 25 ARGENTINA 7
  • TRY ARGENTINA!!!!!
  • Argentina engineer some space on the left and use it well, Tuculet finding Leguizamon who swan-dives over in the corner. Great effort to stop him by Kearney but replays show it was a clear try.

    Sanchez misses the conversion.

    72 MIN: IRELAND 25 ARGENTINA 12

  • Once again Wales flirted with greatness before an inevitable All Blacks backlash.
  • 74 min: Irish penalty for a high tackle - Ireland are going to take the three. Sexton slots it from a central position just outside the 22. Ireland's first points since the 43rd minute.

    75 MIN: IRELAND 28 ARGENTINA 12

  • 76 min: Conway gets impeded in the air by Moyano - penalty for Ireland which new man Keatley sends to touch on the 22.
  • 78 min: Late Irish pressure deep in the Argentina half. Penalty awarded for offside, which is sent into the corner.
  • 79 min: Thrilling, if scrappy passage, as Argentina turn Ireland over and then nearly go the length of the pitch through Moyano - with Conway and Kearney just about scrambling back and hauling him down.
  • TRY ARGENTINA!!!
  • Los Pumas end with a bang. They set the lineout maul and Bertranou works the shortside and stabs a kick through which the flying Moyano touches down.

    Sanchez nails a brilliant conversion.

    80 MIN: IRELAND 28 ARGENTINA 19

  • FT: IRELAND 28 ARGENTINA 19
  • A great second half effort from Argentina who could havge so easily folded.
  • Right then, thanks for joining tonight - and throughout the international year. See you in a few weeks when the provincial and continental action gets back underway.

    Cya!
