  • Good afternoon!

Last weekend provided us with a grim glimpse of a post-Six Nations world - but luckily today the tournament returns with a vengeance.

This evening Ireland take on France in Dublin in what promises to be a physically and emotionally gruelling encounter.

But first up Scotland welcome Wales to Edinburgh with both sides looking to bounce back from second round defeats to France and England respectively.

Doris's work might be done but there's another almighty storm brewing this afternoon - so batten down the hatches and brace yourselves.

    Come on!!!

SCOTLAND:  Stuart Hogg; Tom Seymour, Huw Jones, Alex Dunbar, Tim Visser; Finn Russell, Alistair Price; Gordon Reid, Fraser Brown, Zander Fagerson; Richie Gray, Jonny Gray; John Barclay, John Hardie, Ryan Wilson.Replacements:  Ross Ford, Allan Dell, Simon Berghan, Tim Swinson, Hamish Watson, Henry Pyrgos, Duncan Weir, Mark Bennett.

WALES:  Leigh Halfpenny; George North, Jonathan Davies, Scott Williams, Liam Williams; Dan Biggar, Rhys Webb; Rob Evans, Ken Owens, Tomas Francis; Jake Ball, Alun Wyn Jones; Sam Warburton, Justin Tipuric, Ross Moriarty.  Replacements:  Scott Baldwin, Nicky Smith, Samson Lee, Luke Charteris, Taulupe Faletau, Gareth Davies, Sam Davies, Jamie Roberts.

  • While Scotland couldn't follow-up their opening win over Ireland with a landmark victory in Paris there is no doubt Vern Cotter's side are firmly on an upward trajectory. They were ultimately out-muscled in a pretty brutal clash in Paris - and there will be no respite today. Glasgow Warriors Ali Price starts at scrumhalf with skipper and place-kicker Greg Laidlaw out of the rest of the tournament.

For Wales George North is back in the saddle after missing the defeat to England and he is looking to score in a sixth consecutive Six Nations match. While it isn't fair to pin their loss in Cardiff to the cumbersome Alex Cuthbert it is likely North would have made a better fist of tackling Elliott Daly when he cruised over for the deciding score in Cardiff.

Meanwhile Ross Moriarty resumes at number eight after a string of impressive displays, keeping Taulupe Faletau on the bench.

  • Time for the anthems at Murrayfield.
  • Finn Russell to get us underway, we're off!!
  • 1 min: Jonathan Davies fields on the edge of the Welsh 22 and Owens has a rumble before it's moved back to Biggar. He clears to Hogg but Wales have a penalty for offside which is kicked to halfway.
  • 2 min: Webb asks questions of Biggar with a flat ball but he takes it well and makes good yards. The ball spurts forward at the breakdown and the Scots have the game's first scrum on halfway.
  • 3 min: Scotland have had a tough old time of it in the scrum in their opening games against Ireland and France - but they win a scrum penalty after Wales collapse. The penalty is sent to the 22, good start for the hosts.
  • 4 min: Scotland win the lineout and move it left, trying to build on the Welsh 22. Finn Russell plays a good deep ball and Hardie is tackled but offloads to Huw Jones who dances into the 22. Scotland have their tails up and have a penalty advantage, and play is brought back.

Russell to take an easy penalty from under the sticks - he missed a sitter last weekend, but makes no mistake here.

  • 7 min: Decent response from Wales, a number of good carries getting them up to the 22 where Liam Williams gets the ball in hand for the first time. Scotland have been ferocious at the breakdown so far and force a good turnover before Price clears well. It's been physical, as expected.
  • 9 min: Scotland penalised at the Welsh lineout and it's kicked up to the 22, where Jones wins the next lineout. Wales have a penalty coming and Webb makes a typically cunning break from the base and sneaks his way up towards the Scottish five. There's a loose pass from Wales so we'll go back for the penalty.

This should be easy enough for Halfpenny, and he duly levels things up.

  • 13 min: Scotland have a penalty on halfway but Russell fails to find touch, and Wales clear with a 22.
  • 15 min: Price tests Biggar with a hanging kick but the chasing Visser is penalised for his challenge in the air. The Murrayfield crowd aren't happy with that one.
  • 16 min: Price has made a confident start in the absence of Laidlaw and this time he tests Halfpenny with a big boxkick, but it's excellently claimed by the Welsh 15. Wales attacking on the 10 and Moriarty makes half a break but then Biggar tries to force the offload and it goes loose. Russell then kicks in behind but Halfpenny covers to touch down.
  • 19 min: Great work from Warburton and Wales have a penalty which is kicked to the 22. Good clean ball for Wales and they move it right, Webb making half a break, but again Scotland force a turnover.
  • 21 min: Scotland have a lineout to defend inside their 22 but defend it well, Richie Gray pops down to Price who clears up the touch.
  • 22 min: Visser claims a Biggar kick but North is quickly upon him and wraps him up, and the arriving cavalry hold him up and earn a scrum.
  • TRY WALES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Glorious Wales in full flow. Webb takes a quick tap from a free kick and moves it left, Wales taking advantage of narrow Scottish defence to move it through the hands to the electric Liam Williams who dives to score in the corner. It looked simple but that was brilliantly executed.

Lovely touchline conversion from Halfpenny. Great rugby.

  • 25 min: Good counter-attack from Russell but his attempted basketball pass to Seymour on the wing goes forward.
  • 26 min: Time for the TMO to earn his crust. Frantic passage of play and the excellent Webb breaks before finding Liam Williams on the line. He cuts inside and then back towards the left where his pass to prop Evans goes loose before being touched down. However replays show Webb blocked off two Scottish runners and play is brought back for a Scottish penalty.
  • 27 min: Battle of the fullbacks. Scotland pressing with a penalty advantage after a Warburton high tackle on the diminutive Price. Hogg chips in behind and puts the pressure on the covering Halfpenny - but the Welsh 15 does very well to touch it down.

    Russel slots the penalty.

  • 31 min: Scotland force another turnover but the ball is slow and they're deep inside their own half. Eventually Price clears and Visser beats Halfpenny in the air. Scotland have an overlap but Warburton and Tipuric lock on on the deck and force a penalty.
  • Halfpenny nails the penalty.

  • 34 min: Monster collision as the two Gray Brothers are dumped back by Tipuric and Jones. Welsh scrum.
  • 36 min: Fagerson penalised at the scrum and Wales kick up to the Scottish 10. Liam Williams pops up on the right and darts inside where Huw Jones is penalised for not rolling away.

Chance for Halfpenny to give Wales a 10 point lead, but he pushes it horribly.

  • 38 min: Russell goes high but Biggar has plenty of time and pops to North on the wing who is dragged into touch. Scotland take a quick lineout and they counter through Hogg, who toes a kick through to Seymour and he finds Huw Jones who is held up just short. Wales turn over and Jonathan Davies hoofs it into touch.
  • 40 min: Scotland pressing in the Welsh 22, looking for one last score before the break. Warburton is penalised for not rolling away and Scotland will have a go at goal.

    Russell makes no mistake.

  • Little bit of news ahead of thie evening's game, assistant referee Wayne Barnes is out - who is replacement is I'm not too sure. Stop the press!

The teams are back out at Murrayfield.

  • And Biggar gets us back underway!
  • 40 min: Uncharacteristic early fumble from Halfpenny and Scotland will have a scrum just inside the Welsh half.
  • 42 min: The Scottish scrum holds firm and they work a neat move with Seymour coming in off his wing on a good line. Wales manage to slow the ball down a bit but Scotland still have decent momentum.
  • Brilliant score. Scotland are patient and Russell moves it right to Hogg, he delays his ball to Visser and the winger draws Halfpenny before popping to Seymour on the right who dives over. They check with the TMO after Scott Williams made a brilliant covering tackle - but it wasn't quite enough.

    Russell converts off the upright.

    44 MIN: SCOTLAND 16 WALES 13

  • 46 min: Scotland have their tails up. Russell angles a kick which Visser chases and knocks back brilliantly. The Scots have had 99% possession in the second half but concede a penalty.
  • 48 min: Wales nearly strike back - hooker Owens is first receiver and delays a neat ball to Jonathan Davies who bursts through on a brilliant line. He's tackled and his offload to Webb goes forward.
  • 50 min: Welsh penalty for obstruction and Biggar sticks it into the corner for a five-metre. They try to set the maul but get pinged for obstruction.
  • 50 MIN: SCOTLAND 16 WALES 13
  • 53 min: Price has the ball on halfway and surveys like a quarter back before finding a hole and making a brilliant break up to the 22. Scotland in the ascendancy with a penalty advantage coming. Play breaks down and Russell will go for the posts.

    Holds his nerve well.

    54 MIN: SCOTLAND 19 WALES 13

  • 56 min: Wales looking to strike back but again they're loose and Tipuric loses it forward on the 22 after good work from Visser. Scotland celebrating every big turnover like a try.
  • 57 min: Webb has been excellent today. Wales win a scrum against the head and he snipes down the shortside and manages to touchdown as Visser hauls him out. Replays show his foot was just in touch - brilliant effort.
  • 58 min: Scotland go long to Wilson at the lineout and execute it perfectly, before Russell clears. Well out.
  • 60 MIN: SCOTLAND 19 WALES 13
  • 60 min: Scotland under serious pressure at a scrum under their posts but Wilson does well to dig it out. He moves it to Hogg who clears but it's straight into touch and he was outside of the 22 - Welsh lineout in a promising position.
  • 61 min: Wales pressing inside the Scottish 22 - Webb pops to prop Evans who shows lovely hands to find Charteris on the inside. Wales building the phases but this time Charteris knocks on.
  • Tippuric could be in a bit of bother here, the ref is checking a tackle on Russell with the TMO. He's lifted him but put him down safely so it's just a Scottish penalty.
  • Roberts and Faletau on for Wales, not a bad double sub.
  • 63 min: Wales get done for collapsing the scrum, Scotland kick the penalty deep into Welsh territory.
  • 64 min: Visser skips past North on the left and is tackled by Halfpenny - but he's got Scotland into the Welsh 22.
  • 65 min: Scotland up to 11 phases - Pyrgos sniping and getting them up towards the five-metre. Wales manage to slow it down a bit but Scotland keep hammering away.
  • TRY SCOTLAND!!!!!!!
  • Scotland's pressure tells and again Hogg is behind the score. Russell spins a brilliant flat ball left and Hogg shows deft hands to pop it to Visser on the wing who dives over.

Russell converts again - Scotland on the brink of a landmark win.

    67 MIN: SCOTLAND 26 WALES 13

  • 69 min: Wales need something quickly and have possession on the 22 but new man Sam Davies gets isolated and Scotland force another turnover.
  • 71 min: Wales looking to keep the ball alive inside their own half but Tipuric gets done for obstruction.

Russell will go for goal from wide on the right - chance of points and a chance to waste a bit of time.

    He nails a superb kick.

    72 MIN: SCOTLAND 29 WALES 13

  • 73 min: Wales moving it right and Roberts pass it intercepted by Visser but he gets tackled - and then his offload is picked off by Liam Williams. Wales have the ball in Scottish territory but they are quickly running out of time.
  • 74 min: And there's another Scottish turnover - Watson again. Scotland nearly there.
  • 75 min: Scotland maul infield on the Welsh 10, winding down the clock.
  • Finne Russell named man of the match. He's been excellent.
  • 78 min: Wales have a scrum just inside the Scottish half. It's popped up to Webb who scoots past the Scottish 10 and finds Jonathan Davies who's into the 22. The visitors looking for another consolation score but again Scotland win a penalty.
