  • Champions League final: Liverpool v Real Madrid (7.45pm KO, Kiev)

Liverpool: Karius; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Milner; Salah, Firmino, Mane.

Real Madrid: Navas, Carvajal, Ramos, Varane, Marcelo, Kroos, Casemiro, Modric, Isco, Ronaldo, Benzema.

  • The main team news there being that a fit again Emre Can is on the bench for Liverpool. While Zinedine Zidane has left Gareth Bale on the bench despite five goals in his last four games in La Liga.
  • Allez allez allez has been the theme tune of Liverpool's European journey this season, but the story behind the song goes back well further than that.

  • PATHS TO THE FINAL . . .
  • Ken Early is our man in Kiev. You can follow him on Twitter here.

And you can read his preview right here.

"Jürgen Klopp is the best manager in the world. Klopp’s achievement in steering this  Liverpool  squad to the final, scoring a record number of goals along the way and delivering a string of spectacular matches that will be remembered for years, is a virtuoso display of coaching and management such as has seldom been seen before."

  • The players are back in the dressing rooms after their warm up. 5 minutes 'till kick-off.

This one is so hard to predict. Real Madrid with the better team on paper and with a far stronger bench, and a lot more experience. But, they've yet to come up against anything like the press and counter-attacking pace of a Liverpool team who can beat anyone on their day.

  • The crowd in Kiev is predominantly red, and there'll also be no shortage of Liverpool jerseys cheering from Senegal . .

Three hundred Liverpool shirts have been sent to the small Senegalese village of Bambali in the buildup to the Champions League final, donated by Sadio Mané, its most famous son. Read it here

  • GAME ON! Liverpool kick off and their first attack almost creates a chance but Mo Salah's through ball is cut out by an alert Varane.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (1')

  • Karius comes out well and gets a fist to Carvajal's dangerous cross. It was offside anyway, but a good start from him and both teams looking lively early on. As you'd expect.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (3')

  • Lovren does well to tackle Ronaldo on halfway and Salah skins Marcelo, forcing the Brazilian to foul him on the edge of the box.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (5')

  • Liverpool take it short and Salah's shot is blocked down. Then Isco blocks down Trent Alexander-Arnold but it falls at Karius' feet. Could've went anywhere that.

Then down the other end Firmino plays a lovely ball inside to Mane but Navas is out off his line to clear. Liverpool's press is causing the Real defence problems.

  • Real holding possession for the first time, back and forth across the backline the past two minutes. Looking to stretch and tire the Liverpool press.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (11')

  • Excellent defending by Madrid to block Mane, then Salah and then Firmino after excellent work down the left wing by Andy Robertson to create the chance.

Minutes later Robertson comes out like a mad man to cut out a ball to Ronaldo, and fails to. Ronaldo probably should've squared it but as his effort blazes over the bar he reminds Liverpool of his threat.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (14')

  • Terrible pass by Dani Carvajal to Ramos gives Liverpool a corner. Navas comes out and misses it but Van Djik heads over.

  • Liverpool fans have completely outnumbered Real Madrid's here . . .

A long ball finds Mane but his first touch lets him down when he was in.

Next attack and Milner pulls it back to Firmino, he dwells on it and allows Ramos to make the block. On the follow up Navas saves well from Alexander-Arnold.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (23')

  • Salah is down with a shoulder injury after Ramos pulls him down, a nasty challenge
  • You can feel the sigh of relief as Salah gets back to his feet.

Liverpool then win a second corner after good work by Mane.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (28')

  • MASSIVE BLOW for Liverpool. Salah cannot continue and as he leaves the pitch in tears, Adam Lallana gets ready to come on.

Mane is over to the right hand side with the English midfielder coming on to the left flank.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (30')

  • Madrid get numbers into the Liverpool area, Marcelo crosses and Ronaldo is tackled just before he pulls the trigger. Liverpool look absolutely rattled after losing their talisman.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (33')

  • Real Madrid look to have their own injury concern. Carvajal is in tears as his game looks to be over with a hamstring injury. Remember he went off in last year's final with an injury also.
  • Nacho is coming on, Zidane opting for the more defensive option than Lucas Vazquez.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (36')

  • Liverpool sitting a lot deeper as Madrid dominate the possession. They work it to Modric and Van Djik blocks it out for a corner. Which Liverpool defend well.

  • Some sloppy play from both teams. Mane wasting a good crossing opportunity before Ronaldo does likewise.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (42')

  • OFFSIDE GOAL
  • Ronaldo (who was also offside) rises highest but Karius pulls off a brilliant save, then Benzema follows up but it's ruled out by the linesman.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (43')

  • Half-time cannot come quickly enough for Liverpool as a diagonal ball is met by Nacho on the volley. Wrong man in the right place.

    Three minutes of added time.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (45')

  • Excellent challenge by Alexander Arnold but Real win a corner . . . which Robertson heads away at the front post.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (42')

  • Benzema from distance shoots wide of the left post. The Liverpool defence backing off and the French striker given far too much time.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (43')

  • HT Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 - No more Mo for Liverpool as their Egyptian top goalscorer goes off injured in an otherwise pretty dull first half.
  • Liverpool are in bother here. Since Salah's departure they've dropped a lot deeper, and Madrid have stepped up knowing that the Egyptian's threat over the top is no longer there.

Klopp will need to get his team focused and energised for the second half, otherwise it's just a matter of time until Madrid break them down.

  • Incredible statistic there. Liverpool have completely fallen off without Salah but they'll need to shake that off now for the second half. The teams are out . . .
  • Second half is underway. Real Madrid try to dink it over the top from the kick-off but it comes to nothing.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (46')

  • Benzema makes space down the left and crosses it in but Lovren does well. Then Alexander-Arnold loses the ball and Isco sneaks inside before hitting the crossbar. Massive chance for the holders.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (48')

  • Liverpool press Madrid high up for the first time since Salah's departure, and Nacho is forced out of play. More of that needed but as Real continue to dominate possession that'll get harder and harder.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 0 (50')

  • GOAL REAL MADRID. BLUNDER
  • Benzema blocks Karius' throw and taps it in. What a goal to concede in the Champions League final.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 1 (50')

  • Clever stuff from the Madrid striker, but as for the Liverpool goalkeeper . . . no words.
  • Brilliant cross by Milner looked to be going to Firmino at the back post but Varane gets a crucial touch. Corner.

    Liverpool 0 Real Madrid 1 (53')

  • GOALL LIVERPOOL!!
  • Liverpool have been threatening with every corner. Lovren wins the header and Mane taps it in. What a response. Mane's 20th of the season.

    Liverpool 1 Real Madrid 1 (55')

  • Liverpool pressing now again, driven on by the fans, but Real are remaining composed and still keeping possession.

    Gareth Bale warming up.

    Liverpool 1 Real Madrid 1 (59')

  • Nacho whips it into Isco, his first touch is top class but Karius gets down well to save his snapshot.

That's his last involvement however as Bale comes on for the Spaniard.

    Liverpool 1 Real Madrid 1 (61')

  • WHAT. A . GOAL
  • Gareth Bale has just pulled off one of the best overhead kicks you will see.

    Liverpool 1 Real Madrid 2 (63')

  • Technique is actually a bit odd, but he rises so high there, and the timing. A sublime goal to stun the stadium into silence
  • Madrid playing with a swagger now. You'd have to think Liverpool's best chance of getting back into this will be with a set piece.

    Liverpool 1 Real Madrid 2 (66')

  • Bale was only on the field for two minutes
  • A brilliant through ball to Mane is cut out by a last ditch Ramos slide tackle. Navas them comes out to box the corner away.

    Liverpool 1 Real Madrid 2 (69')

  • Liverpool hit the post. Mane cuts in from the right wing and his left footed effort hits the post
  • Ronaldo on the counter is one on one with Van Djik but the big Dutch defender does enough and Ronaldo runs it out of play.

    Liverpool 1 Real Madrid 2 (71')

  • Firmino's cross is blocked by Casemiro's elbow but no penalty. On the counter Ronaldo is away again but Robertson makes a brilliant last ditch tackle. Superb stuff from the Scot to keep his team in it.

    Liverpool 1 Real Madrid 2 (74')

  • Varane makes another crucial interception as Milner's cross looked to be heading in Lallana's direction in the box. Liverpool starting to get more numbers forward.

    Liverpool 1 Real Madrid 2 (76')

  • Real slowing things down here as we enter the final 10 minutes. Keeping the ball. Liverpool with very few options on the bench.

    Liverpool 1 Real Madrid 2 (80')

  • Excellent cross by Bale, outside of his left foot. Benzema gets on to it but Karius saves.

    Liverpool 1 Real Madrid 2 (81')

  • Emre Can on for a very tired looking James Milner. The German has missed the last six games with injury
  • Karius makes another howler. Game over
  • Bale again. His shot from distance is dropped by the Liverpool goalkeeper. Who'd be a goalkeeper, but that's dreadful stuff.

    Liverpool 1 Real Madrid 3 (83')

  • You'll never walk alone being sung aloud in Kiev but it's Real Madrid who look more likely to score another.

    Liverpool 1 Real Madrid 3 (86')

  • Three minutes to be added on for Liverpool to try and somehow score two goals.
  • Ronaldo lurking at the back post as Van Djik makes a crucial intervention.

    Liverpool 1 Real Madrid 3 (92')

  • FT Liverpool 1 Real Madrid 3

The final passage of play sees Ronaldo, about to pull the trigger, before a pitch invader comes on and the game is stopped. That sums up this final. Liverpool lose Mo Salah after 30 minutes and Karius makes two of the biggest mistakes you'll ever see to hand the title to Real Madrid. Not to mention one of the best goals you'll ever see from Gareth Bale. Strange.

  • So that's that . . . Three in a row for Real Madrid. Well off Barcelona's pace in La Liga but they are made for this competition. A lot of things went their way but all that matters is they leave Kiev with a 13th European title.
