  • Good afternoon!

Welcome to our coverage of England's Six Nations clash with Wales at Twickenham (5.45).

One of the rivalries in international rugby, both sides head into today's game having notched up opening weekend victories.

For England, their romp over Italy was to be expected - with Eddie Jones's side showinng particular ruthlessness late on.

The Welsh however headed into the this year's competition with a huge injury list and lowered expectations. Their clinical 34-7 win over Scotland in Cardiff suggests they are still a force to be reckoned with.

A trip to Twickenham is a much sterner test of Championship credentials than beating a hapless Scottish side at home, though - we will know much more about Warren Gatland's dashing young guns after today.

We'll be bringing you all of the action from English rugby HQ - promises to be the game of the weekend.

    Come on!!!

  • TEAM NEWS: Leigh Halfpenny has been ruled out for Wales - Gareth Anscombe comes in at fullback.
  • TEAMS:

England: Mike Brown, Anthony Watson, Jonathan Joseph, Owen Farrell, Jonny May, George Ford, Danny Care; Mako Vunipola, Dylan Hartley (Northampton Saints 90 capDan Cole, Joe Launchbury, Maro Itoje, Courtney Lawes, Chris Robshaw, Sam Simmonds. Replacements: Jamie George, Alec Hepburn, Harry Williams, George Kruis, Sam Underhill, Richard Wigglesworth, Ben Te’o, Jack Nowell.

Wales: G Anscombe (Cardiff Blues); J Adams (Worcester), S Williams (Scarlets), H Parkes (Scarlets), S Evans (Scarlets); R Patchell (Scarlets), G Davies (Scarlets); R Evans (Scarlets), K Owens (Scarlets), S Lee (Scarlets); C Hill (Dragons), A W Jones (Ospreys, capt); A Shingler (Scarlets), J Navidi (Cardiff Blues), R Moriarty (Gloucester). Replacements: E Dee (Dragons), W Jones (Scarlets), T Francis (Exeter), B Davies (Ospreys), J Tipuric (Ospreys), A Davies (Scarlets), O Watkin (Ospreys), G North (Northampton).

  • Halfpenny's absence is a huge blow for Wales - he looked back to him imperious best against Scotland, with his kicking laser accurate. Not as if the cupboard wasn't looking bare enough already.

There is a place on the bench for George North though, would be great to see him back.

  • Eddie Jones has looked to stoke the fires this week, suggesting Welsh captain Alun Wyn Jones was 'out of order' for his behaviour towards referee  Pascal Gaüzère in Cardiff last weekend and revealing he had complained to World Rugby. He also picked out outhalf Rhys Patchell as a potential chink in the Welsh armour.

Unfortunately for the England coach, his reputation as a serial wind-up merchant precedes him and I doubt Wales will have taken much notice.

  • Alun Wyn Jones and Maro Itoje shared a room on last summer's Lions tour - that is a colossal match up.
  • The teams are out at Twickenham.
  • Anthems done, the stage is set.
  • It's a sodden afternoon in London. Patchell has the ball in hand - we're underway!
  • 1 min: Watson spills the ball in contact and Wales have an early platform. They spin it wide to Adams, good territory. Hartley then tackles without his hands in midfield and there's a clash of heads - Welsh scrum.

Hartley off the a HIA with Jamie George coming on - that's an improvement for England.

  • 2 min: Slick hands from Wales, Anscombe tries to stab a kick through but gets it wrong, Ford across to cover.
  • Out of nowhere. Patchell loses the ball in the air, it breaks for Farrell who catches Wales out with a kick into the space deep to the left. May tears onto the ball and touches down sliding over the line.

All came from the vision of Farrell, who misses the conversion.

  • 5 min: Patchell throws a loose ball in midfield under pressure but they had a penalty coming for offside.

Patchell will go for goal from a long way out - dead straight just inside the English half - and it fades just wide.

  • 8 min: Patchell sends it high but he's smartly beaten in the air by Watson. England kick in behind Wales and Steff Evans covers but it's a poor clearance - English lineout 30 yards out.
  • 9 min: Wales pinch the English lineout and then Parkes relieves the pressure with a big kick up to the home 10.
  • 11 min: This time England get slick ball off the top and Wales are up quickly. Ford dinks it over the line and Farrell runs onto it, before Ford finds a good tocuh at the next phase.
  • 12 min: After a loose start it's time for an arm wrestle, England using their big lumps to try and pierce the Welsh line. Good defence, and Ken Owens is over Brown quickly to win his side a penalty.
  • 13 min: Powerful carry from Scott Williams but Farrell tackles well and it's spilled forward.
  • 15 min: There's a bit of kick tennis before Care finds touch on the English 10. Not the best handling conditions.
  • 16 min: Neat hands by Alun Wyn Jones in midfied but England are in very quickly - the referee turning a blind eye to a number of potential offsides. Wales are done for coming in off their feet - England lineout on the 22.
  • 18 min: England possession in the Wales half. Huge tackle by Moriarty before Ford nearly dances through. The hosts are up to 16 phases and getting real traction.
  • 19 min: England getting quick ball from the pick and go and they have an advantage. Itoje finds Ford with Farrell steaming onto the ball and getting held up just short.
  • The pressure finally tells. England are nearing 30 phases when it's whipped out to Launchbury on the left. He takes two tacklers and releases the ball back inside with an excellent one-handed offload. May runs onto it to cross for his second score.

    Farrell converts this time.

    21 MIN: ENGLAND 12 WALES 0

  • 22 min: Sloppy restart from England and they are penalised for going in off their feet after Launchbury spills it. Patchell kicks into the corner - chance for Wales to strike back.
  • 23 min: Wales can't get any traction on the lineout maul so they use it right, Patchell getting caught by two but delivering the ball back well. Penalty advantage to Wales and Patchell sticks a kick into the corner - Wales have the ball down but there's a very strong suspicion of a knock-on from Steff Evans...
  • 24 min: Replays show the ball came off the knee of Evans, and then Anscombe got to the ball a fraction ahead of Watson who touched down. It looks like a try but the TMO awards a scrum - very poor decision.

Wales had the penalty advantage - Patchell knocks over the three from under the posts.

    24 MIN: ENGLAND 12 WALES 3

  • 25 min: More masterful play from Farrell, running a good line outside Ford and then stabbing a kick into touch deep inside the Welsh 22. Wales take it quickly and secure the ball but the clerance is poor and Brown gets England back into the 22.
  • 27 min: 12 phases for England but Wales turn it over well, Scott Williams haring up the right wing. But then Wales are slow in support and England turn it back over. Clearance deep to Patchell who steps the cover and finds Adams - but again his kick is straight down the throat of Brown.
  • 30 MIN: ENGLAND 12 WALES 3
  • 30 min: Davies keeps the ball alive after Wales slow it down and lose it in midfield, Patchell kicks straight to Brown again but this time he knocks it on. Welsh kicking has been pretty aimless thus far.
  • 31 min: Wales get good scrum ball and Patchell tries a crossfield but forces Steff Evans to check his run on the left wing.
  • 32 min: Wales pretty much stationary in the middle of the park until Ken Owens picks and generates a bit of momentum - before Alun Wyn Jones offloads to Davies who makes a great little snipe. Good go forward ball for Wales now and they win a penalty.

That's followed by a some handbags with the majority of both sides involved - predictably sparked by the risible Hartley. Just a talking to, though.

  • 33 min: Wales go for the corner - big chance.
  • 34 min: Cory Hill picks the ball out of the Twickenham sky and the Welsh maul gets up to the five-metre. Ferocious defence from England but Wales retain it well. Parkes gets a bit of space on the right but has to cut back inside and loses ground.

And then Samson Lee spills it forward - good linespeed from the home defence.

  • 37 min: England look to have secured the ball at the scrum until Wales get a good shunt on - Garces orders it to be retaken.
  • 38 min: Second time round they dig it out and Care clears.
  • 39 min: Wales run a few phases in the tight on their own 10-metre before Davies box kicks - another great take in the air from Brown. The first half has been catching practice for the England 15.
  • 40 min: England put big pressure on Davies at the base and he drops the ball as he looks ot move it. Ferocious contest on the floor but Lawes emerges with it.
  • There's an image of the Welsh try which wasn't.
  • 41 min: One half time change for England - Sam Underhill on for Sam Simmonds.
  • 42 min: England run a few phases before Care probes in behind with a box kick. Wales secure it and Davies clears - to Brown.
  • 43 min: Short, sharp phases from England, getting momentum with the pick and go. They're up to 10 phases when Joseph glides through on the outside shoulder and finds Watson, who runs out of space and has to dance back inside.
  • 44 min: Patchell covers a Care kick and then his clearance is straight to Brown again. Deep pass to Ford and he takes his time before finding a good kick into touch inside the Welsh 22. Watson limping off to be replaced by Nowell.
  • 45 min: Good platform for Care but Patchell reads his pass - he's in too much traffic to break, though. Welsh possession on their 10, and they make good ground up the right through Shingler. Wales penalty in midfield - kicked for touch down the left.
  • 47 MIN: ENGLAND 12 WALES 3
  • 48 min: Stunning break from deep by Shingler, who shows a startling turn of foot to burst into the Welsh 22. It came from nowhere, and with support slow in coming Farrell is back to win it and force Wales into a penalty.
  • 50 min: Good play from England, generating serious momentum up to the Welsh 22 - new man Nowell making a good carry. He just loses the ball in the tackle though and Wales are relieved. They were really under the cosh there.
  • 52 min: Wales earn a huge scrum penalty inside their 22 - Moriarty celebrates it with a guttural roar. They needed that.
  • 53 min: Welsh lineout on halfway and they move it off the top, Alun Wyn Jones recovering well after being double-teamed in midfield by Lawes and Vunipola. Wales losing ground and Patchell kicks to Brown. He takes a return but thens pills it looking for Adams.
  • 54 min: Wales can't find touch and Care runs it back. Huge chance for the hosts but then Nowell concedes a stupid penalty at the breakdown.
  • 55 MIN: ENGLAND 12 WALES 3
  • 56 min: Wales get go forward in midfield through Navidi, Jones and Lee. Patchell then sees the space in behind and Moriarty runs onto the chip - but England slow it down well and earn a scrum.

Change for Wales - big George North is on for Patchell.

  • 57 min: The scrum takes a while but Care digs it out before finding ford, who sticks a lovely kick in behind Wales and into touch, makeshift 15 Adams having to watch it bobble out.
  • 59 min: Big powerful carry form Moriaty in midfield to give Wales a bit of momentum. The visitors get on the front foot and make about 40 yards in three phases - but then Farrell does the dirty work again to force a turn over on the 22.
  • 60 MIN: ENGLAND 12 WALES 3
  • 61 min: The ball squirts out of an England breakdown on the left and Wales pounce on it. Alun Wyn Jones has to play scrumhalf and at the next phase Davies' pass is loose.
  • 62 min: This is getting really loose. Wales win it back in midfield and work the shortside brilliantly, Ken Owens finding North and he frees Scott Williams on the left. Williams is in and dives early to slide over - but Underhill makes a stunning covering tackle to drag his legs into touch. What an intervantion.
  • 62 min: Wales challenge but Lawes takes the lineout and England set a maul before Care clears down the right. Welsh lineout just inside the England 22.
  • 63 min: Good ball for Wales and they ont the attack, Parkes getting the, inside the 22. They're building up a head of steam when Shingler knocks it forward in the tackle - another huge tackle from Farrell.
  • 65 MIN: ENGLAND 12 WALES 3
  • 65 min: Welsh possession on the England 10 but Anscombe spills it. Underhill finds Itoje and England have made 30 metres. Wales now back-pedalling and Harry Williams backs a good chopping tackle to force a knock on from Wyn Jones.
  • 68 min: England get good ball from that scrum but Wigglesworth's pass on the loop misses his man and goes loose. Replays show Parkes knocked it forward in the tackle - another scrum for the hosts.

Ben Te'o on for England. Just who you want running at you after 70 minutes graft.

  • 70 MIN: ENGLAND 12 WALES 3
  • 71 min: England up to 18 phases and on the Welsh five-metre after a mammoth passage of play. Wales fighting for their lives.
  • 72 min: After 22 phases Wales turn it over deep inside their 22 - great work from Francis. Huge heart from the visitors. New scrumhalf Aled Davies boxkicks and England are back in possession in the middle of the park.
  • 73 min: Anscombe does well to take a high kick but a good chase from Brown sees him forced fractionally into touch.
  • 74 min: This has been an exhausting passage and Wales are defending on their 22 again. But they pinch it and move it to the right where North breaks! Gorgeous George steams down the touchline, beating one before checking back in. Wales then break again through Anscombe but he can't find the support.

Penalty advantage Wales, a kick through is overcooked so back to the 22. Wales will take the points leaving them within a converted score.

    76 MIN: ENGLAND 12 WALES 6

  • 77 min: They were the first points of the half. England go deep with the restart looking for territory and Wales are looking to build from inside their 22.
  • 78 min: Wales move it through the hands, Shingler finding Steff Evans who dances back inside. Wales retaining it well but it's getting slower and slower.
  • 79 min: North sees half a gap but the door is quickly shut by Te'o. Wales are still plugging away - up to 15 phases but 30 yards from their own line.
  • 79 min: England's defence has been very good since the restart. Wales forced back into their own 22 with a minute on the clock.
  • 80 min: Anscombe does well to secure a loose pass. Te'o then goes high on Navidi so Wales have a penalty advantage - they can't use it so play comes back. Wales find touch on their own 10 from a narrow angle. Last chance.
  • 81 min: Alun Wyn Jones wins the lineout but Lawes spoils well as they try to set the maul. And then Hepburn forces the turnover, before Wigglesworth boots it into touch.
  • Thanks for joining today! The bad news is there's no Six Nations next weekend, the good news is that gives messrs Henshaw, Conan and Furlong an extra week to get patched up.
