  • Good evening!

Welcome to our coverage of Brazil's quarter-final clash with Belgium (kick-off 7.0).

If you're reading this then congratulations - you survived the last two days. Wednesday and Thursday offered a haunting glimpse of the life which awaits us from July 16th onwards - an apocalyptic wasteland free of penalty drama, giant killings and, erm, VAR.

But let's forget about that for now. The World Cup is back - and only seven teams remain. Earlier today France showed true grit to best a grim Uruguay side in Nizhny, booking their place in the semi-finals.

They will meet the winners of tonight's clash in Kazan - a fixture which is fascinatingly poised.

Five-time winners Brazil were impressive as they despatched Mexico in the last-16, and have show they have the steel to go with their samba flair.

Belgium meanwhile flirted with national catastrophe against Japan - Maroune Fellaini helping them come from 2-0 down to win and keep the dream alive for the golden generation.

This is incredibly difficult to call, as South America's last remaining interest take on some of Europe's finest.

We'll be bringing you all of the action - a cracker awaits.

    Come on!!!

  • TEAM NEWS:

Brazil: Alisson; Fagner, Thiago Silva, Miranda, Marcelo; Paulinho, Fernandinho; Willian, Coutinho, Neymar; Gabriel Jesus.
Subs: Cassio, Pedro Geromel, Filipe Luis, Douglas Costa, Renato Augusto, Marquinhos, Fred, Firmino, Taison, Ederson.

Belgium: Courtois; Alderweireld, Kompany, Vertonghen; Meunier, Fellaini, Witsel, Chadli; De Bruyne, Lukaku, Eden Hazard.
Subs: Mignolet, Vermaelen, Carrasco, Mertens, Thorgan Hazard, Tielemans, Januzaj, Dembele, Boyata, Batshuayi, Dendoncker, Casteels.

    Referee: Milorad Mazic (Serbia).

  • Two changes for both sides tonight. For Brazil the fit again Marcelo replaces Filipe Luis while Fernandinho comes in for the suspended Casemiro.

Fellaini and Nacer Chadli helped save Belgium's skin against Japan and are rewarded with starts - Yannick Carrasco and Dries Mertens make way.

  • The official Fifa teamsheet suggest Roberto Martinez has picked Kevin De Bruyne as part of a front three - but it's more likely he'll form a three-man midfield with Axel Witsel and Fellaini. The Manchester City midfielder has struggled to assert his influence so far this summer - often deployed too deep - but he looks likely to have more license to bomb forward tonight.

Crossing will be key for Belgium with the presence of Fellaini, who can unsettle any defence in the air.

  • 15 mins until kick-off!
  • The teams are in the tunnel in Kazan. This is huge.
  • Wonder how many times Neymar will roll on the deck after getting a Fellaini forearm to the chops?
  • Today's ref is Serbia's Milorad Mazic.

    BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!

  • 1 min: Searching long ball from Kompany to Lukaku - it skids out for a goal kick. Great noise in Kazan - Belgium lining up with four at the back.
  • 2 min: De Bruyne bullies his Man City team mate Fernandinho off the ball and has an early sight at goal, dragging his shot a yard wide of Alisson's right hand post.
  • 3 min: Neymar picks it up on the left and there's a huge roar. He carries inside and plays a one-two with Jesus, but his cross is too big for the number nine and Courtois claims.
  • 5 min: Fellaini's first foul, having a nibble at Coutinho in midfield. Expect plenty more of that.
  • 6 min: And now Fellaini goes through Neymar, catching him in the back of the head with a forearm. Neymar makes plenty of it but it's just a free-kick and a talking to.
  • Pmc “He carries inside and plays a one-two with Jesus, but his cross is too big for the number nine“ - a well-known problem afflicting Jesus alright...
  • Very droll.
  • 8 min: Out of nowhere the the game catches fire. Neymar swings a corner in from the left and it falls for Thiago Silva, who can't adjust in time - the ball looping off his thigh and into the post. Belgium break down the left through Lukaku - his low cross is laid off to Hazard who sees his shot blocked. Chadli's follow-up is pulled well wide.
  • 9 min: Tenacious harrying from Brazil and they cause chaos in the Belgium box, Paulinho eventually forced wide. Willians swings in a corner which is flicked on at the near post and again nearly falls for Paulinho - frantic.
  • 10 MIN: BRAZIL 0 BELGIUM 0
  • 11 min: Jesus wins the ball in the Belgium half and scampers forward before being snuffed out. Brazil look dangerous.
  • 12 min: Lovely football from Belgium. Lukaku drops off and plays it to De Bruyne, who splits the Brazil defence with a pass to Fellaini. His shot is deflected for a corner.
  • GOOOOOAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!

BRAZIL 0 BELGIUM 1 (FERNANDINHO OG 14 MIN)

  • Chadli whips the corner in towards Kompany at the near post - the ball skids off Fernandinho and beyond a stranded Alisson.

    15 MIN: BRAZIL 0 BELGIUM 1

  • 16 min: Interesting match-up between Man City team mates Kompany and Jesus - the latter is scheming away off the ball and looks a nightmare to mark. Great game thus far.
  • 18 min: Belgium posing a serious threat on the break. Lukaku carries down the right this time and switches the play to Chadli. He's tracked by Willian but shows great strength to bounce the Chelsea forward and cross - Brazil head it clear.
  • 19 min: Coutinho makes the space and shoots from distance - catches it well but it's straight at Courtois.
  • 20 MIN: BRAZIL 0 BELGIUM 1
  • 21 min: Excellent play from Hazard, playing a one-two with De Bruyne on halfway and dancing towards goal. He shapes to shoot but plays in Meunier on the right - his cross towards Lukaku is vitally cleared by Marcelo.
  • 23 min: Belgium break again through De Bruyne - they have a three on three. He finds Lukaku on the right, who lets the ball run away from him but earns a corner kick. Brazil clear, but Belgium are growing in confidence.
  • 26 min: Marcelo drops his shoulder and beats his man - testing Courtois with a stinging effort which he can only parry. And then Belgium break, Hazard does brilliantly to find De Bruyne, but he can't pick out Fellaini with the cross.
  • 29 min: Stupid foul from Vertonghen on Paulinho as he tries to stop the ball going out for a corner. Willian over the free-kick. Fellaini heads clear and it drops to Fernandinho on the edge - well blocked. Neymar then shoots and Witsel deflects it behind for another corner.
  • 30 MIN: BRAZIL 0 BELGIUM 1
  • GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!

BRAZIL 0 BELGIUM 2 (DE BRUYNE 32 MIN)

  • What. A. Goal. Lukaku drops very, very deep to pick the ball up. He turns and runs at Brazil, beating one on halfway and then playing it wide to De Bruyne on the right. De Bruyne takes a touch and fizzes an unstoppable effort into the bottom left corner. Stunning.

    33 MIN: BRAZIL 0 BELGIUM 2

  • 35 min: Great chance for Brazil to get one back. The ball is crossed from the left and Jesus has peeled away from Kompany, but can't keep his header down.
  • 37 min: Brazil still looking dangerous. Neymar slips it to Marcelo at the box and his deflected cross nearly squirts in at the near post. Brazil then work a short corner - Coutinho curling one across goal with Courtois fists away.
  • 39 min: Another scintillating Belgium break - Brazil just can't deal with Hazard who has been untouchable thus far. The front three - along with De Bruyne and Lukaku - look so dangerous.
  • 40 MIN: BRAZIL 0 BELGIUM 2
  • 41 min: De Bruyne is fouled after the ball had gone - free-kick in a good spot in the inside left channel. A cross looks on the cards but De Bruyne goes for goal himself - Alisson having to tip it over from under his bar.

Chadli's corner is to the near post, Kompany flicks it goalwards where Alisson is solid again.

  • 45 min: A steady conclusion to the half - Brazil probing but Belgium sitting comfortably.
  • 46 min: Neymar hares through on goal - but he's offside. First time Brazil have got in behind.
  • HT: BRAZIL 0 BELGIUM 2
  • That might very well be the half of football which saw Belgium confirm their status as an international heavyweight. They got that absoltely spot on.
  • We're back underway!
  • 46 min: One change at half time, Willian replaced by Firmino. Belgium have a free-kick wide on the left and they work it short. The ball is chipped in and Fellaini flicks it on towards Hazard, who can't bring the ball down.

Brazil break and Alderweireld taks a tactical booking to bring down Paulinho.

  • 49 min: Another dangerous Belgium break - Miranda does excellently to stand Lukaku up one and one and snuff out the danger.
  • 50 MIN: BRAZIL 0 BELGIUM 2
  • 51 min: Stunning work from Marcelo on the left, pulling Meunier one way and then back out before fizzing a good ball across goal - there's nobody there to follow-up.
  • 53 min: Ha! Neymar dances into the box and across Fellaini, throwing himself to the ground. The ref is directly over it and doesn't even consider a penalty, telling the Brazilian number 10 to get up. He doesn't show a yellow card, either.
  • 55 min: Better from Neymar, turning deep and driving at Belgium - scampering into the box and earning a corner. Lovely play from Marcelo, switching the ball to Jesus on the right.

He megs Vertonghen and pushes the ball to the byline - where Kompny dives in with a rash tackle. There's no penalty but the ref checks with VAR. Looks stonewall but he doesn't give it! Huge let off for Belgium.

  • 58 min: Douglas Costa replaces Jesus.
  • 60 MIN: BRAZIL 0 BELGIUM 2
  • 62 min: That was Belgium's chance to kill it off. Chadli breaks up the play and carries, finding De Bruyne. He has options both ways and slides in Hazard on the left - he opts to shoot across goal rather than cross for Lukaku.

Up the other end Costa forces a save from Courtois before Neymar is well tackled by Fellaini on the edge. Not today, pal.

  • 65 min: Good spell for Belgium, pressing high and winning the ball back off Brazil in their final third. It's not clicking for the Selecao.
  • 69 min: Lung-busting run from Lukaku, turning on halfway and knocking it past Miranda who can't keep pace with him. His final touch is just too heavy.
  • 70 MIN: BRAZIL 0 BELGIUM 2
  • 74 min: Great run from Costa down the right and he shoots across Courtois who palms it towards Neymar - he can't weave his shot through a mass of Belgian bodies.
  • GOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!

BRAZIL 1 BELGIUM 2 (RENATO AUGUSTO 76 MIN)

  • Renato Augusto has only just come on but he's given Brazil a route back from the dead - meeting Coutinho's cross from the left with a lovely flicked header into the far corner. Belgium are looking leggy. Here we go.

    78 MIN: BRAZIL 1 BELGIUM 2

  • 79 min: Neymar finds Firmino in the box - he swivels and shoots over rather than looking to play the return ball. As you can imagine, Neymar is thrilled.
  • 80 MIN: BRAZIL 1 BELGIUM 2
  • 80 min: Hazard turns Marcelo on halfway and carries deep into the Brazil half - but his final pass is tired. Martinez yet to make a sub.
  • 81 min: Golden chance for Renato Augusto, the ball dropping to him on the edge. He tries to place it in the bottom left corner but pulls it wide. Chadli is limping off - looks like cramp - Vermaelen coming on. Baffling how Mousa Dembele doesn't get a game.
  • 84 min: Huge chance wasted by Brazil. He runs onto a ball on the left and cuts back inside Meunier, laying it off for the run of Coutinho, who opens his foot and slices it high and wide.
  • 86 min: Interesting substitution from Martinez - Tielemans replacing Lukaku, who's had a stormer.
  • 89 min: A lovely turn from Hazard and he's hacked down by Fagner. He's been sublime.
  • 91 min: Neymar goes down at the back post under pressure from Meunier. Brazil are screaming for a penno - the ref checks with VAR. Replays show there was an arm on the back but nothing more, no penalty.

    Five minutes injury time.

  • 93 min: Another brilliant run from Hazard relieves the pressure for Belgium, and he draws the foul from Miranda.
  • 94 min: WOW!!! Brazil think they've equalised. The ball is rolled back to Neymar who curls one first time towards to top right corner - Courtois tips it over. Stunning save.
  • 95 min: De Bruyne wins a corner on the right and then rallies the crowd. Belgium are nearly there.
  • FT: BRAZIL 1 BELGIUM 2
